after we had exited the train i had talked to a large man named hagrid who had told me i needed to go on the boats with the first years. which is exactly why i was currently sitting in a tiny boat with three other 11 year olds.

"what's your name again?" one of the boys asked.

instead of telling them my name for the third time i shook my head and ignored them.

the castle came into view, and a castle it was. one word to describe hogwarts was beautiful.

our boats eventually pulled into the dock and we started up towards the castle.

a woman named professor mcgonnagall explained the four houses and how we would be sorted, seemed pretty easy, right?

we entered the great hall to see four large tables with students sitting at them. the ceiling, which i read was enchanted to look like the night sky, was glistening and gorgeous.

i could see people looking at me with questioning gazes. it was a bit weird to see a seventh year among loads of first years.

we were ushered to the front by professor mcgonnagall, "winters, leola." she called out clearly.

i calmed myself before walking to the front and taking a seat on the wooden stool. the woman placed the old sorting hat onto my head before it started speaking.

leola winters eh? cross slytherin off the list, definitely not a match. not hufflepuff either. you are smart, but do not crave knowledge. better be... GRYFFINDOR!

the hat announced my house, gryffindor, before the table with red robes broke out into loud applause. i smiled, knowing i would be in the same house as oliver.

professor mcgonnagall took the hat off my head before i stood up and started towards the gryffindor table. i spotted oliver grinning near the end of the table, i found a spot across from him.

"congrats lia!"

"thanks olly." i grinned at him.

louis stuck out his hand in a fist, i stared at him for a minute before he spoke up, "fistbump."

i raised my eyebrows before fist bumping him.

professor dumbledore announced the new defense against the dark arts professor, professor lupin, and a few other tedious things before the food appeared.

"this is the common room," oliver gestured around the large room as we entered, "the girls dormitories are up there and the boys are up there." he pointed up two separate staircases.

"leola! sick, you're in gryffindor!" lizzie called out while entering the room, "oh hey oliver, louis." she greeted once catching sight of the two boys.

i nodded with a small smile as the two boys greeted her.

"we'll be in the same dormitory, wanna head up now?" lizzie asked.

i looked towards oliver, "i'll see you in the morning, yea?"

"yea of course, see you at breakfast."

i smiled gratefully at him before starting up to my new dormitory with lizzie.

we entered the circular room to find two other girls lounging on their beds. the four beds were separated with silk maroon sheets and curtains around the bed post. on one side of the room was a gorgeous window seat with a plush cushion seat.

"claire, amy this is leola. our new roommate." lizzie explained.

they greeted me politely before lizzie gestured to the extra bed that had my trunk sitting in front of it.

after i had found my pajamas in my trunk i had prepared for bed and climbed into my four poster bed with a new book. just as i was starting to relax lizzie climbed in next to me.

"hello?" i said slowly.

"hi." she responded with a smile, "so why'd you transfer to hogwarts?"

"erm- we just wanted to leave the states." i lied, well mostly lied.

"well i'm glad your here." she leaned her head on my shoulder, "so you know oliver and louis?"

"i met louis on the train since he's a friend of oliver's but i met oliver at the library about a month ago."

"oh?" she said, amused. "oliver's cute."

i shook my head with a small laugh, "i suppose."

"do you have any siblings?" lizzie asked curiously.

"nope, it's just my mum and i."

"what about your dad?" god, lizzie really did not have any boundaries. i liked her anyways.

"he's out of the picture."

"oh, i'm sorry." she apologized sincerely.

i shook my head, "no need to be sorry. you have any siblings?"

"a sister. second year."

"that's nice."

she nodded with a smile on her face, "it is."

"i'm gonna go to bed, you wanna stay here?" i asked.

"if that's okay with you."

"sure." i responded before turning off the lamp on my nightstand and laying down.

the bed was small, but we could fit. and it was nice to have another friend.
