i was woken at what i assumed to be four in the morning by the faint noises of my mum crying.

i untucked myself from my bed and made my way to her room, where she was sitting, clutching a photo of her, myself, and my father.

i took a seat next to her and grabbed her hand, "mum."

"i know," she sniffled, "i have to let it go."

"it's okay to be sad about it, i just don't want your life to come crumbling down." i told her sadly.

"it already has come crumbling down, can't you see?"

i squeezed her hand before gently taking the photo away from her. "you should get some sleep."

she nodded while sniffling once again, "okay."

standing up from her bed, i made my way out of the room, still clutching the photo of what was once our family.

i made my way to my room and hid the photo on the top shelf of my closet, with the rest of old pictures.

i sighed while shaking my head, how did everything go from perfect to absolute hell?

realizing i wouldn't be able to fall back asleep, i prepared myself for the day. i brushed my hair carefully and replaced my flannel pajamas with some dark jeans and a white long sleeve.

i grabbed my backpack after lacing up my black converse and exited my room.

after leaving my house, i started towards a large field i knew to be nearby. the field was mostly hidden by trees, making for a perfect place to read.

settling myself on a small hill, i pulled a small book out of my bag and opened the pages.

i was pulled into a trance by the book, the words creating a world around me, making me forget everything i did not want to remember.

"leola?" i heard a voice call out.

i pulled my gaze away from my book and towards the boy who was sitting on his broomstick in the air.

"oliver." i smiled.

"new book?" he nodded towards the book that was laying in my lap.

i gave a small laugh. "practicing quidditch?"

oliver shrugged, "you know how it is."

i stared at him for a minute with a small smile. he looked pretty in this lighting, i had to admit it.

"have you ever flown on a broom before?" he asked me.

"me? absolutely not." i shook my head at the idea.

"do you want to try it?"

my head snapped up to face him. me, try quidditch?

"definitely not." i laughed.

"i swear it'll be fun." he smiled lopsidedly while flying down to the ground and dismounting from his broom. "i'll be here the whole time."

oliver held his hand out for me to take, i stared at him for a minute before putting my hand in his.

his touch sent shivers down my spine as i stood up on the grass.

"you pinky promise you'll be there the whole time?" i asked hopefully while letting go of his hand and holding out my pinky.

he let a small chuckle slip through before straightening up and nodding, "i pinky promise." he linked his pinkie through mine.

after twenty minutes of oliver instructing me on how to get on the broom i was hovering around five feet in the air as oliver held my hand from below.

"you're okay, don't worry leola." he spoke while trying not to laugh at my uneasiness.

"oliver, oliver. let me down! please!" i screeched from the air.

"just jump!" he laughed.

i stared at him with wide eyes before angling my body to the side and slipping off the broom.

i landed on the grass with a soft thump. "i can't, that's absolutely terrifying." i shook my head, but not without amusement.

"will you get back on if i get on too?" he asked.

i felt my cheeks heat up as i stared at him for a minute. "yea, okay." i nodded.

he grinned at me before hopping onto his broom and instructing me to get on behind him.

i didn't want to be overbearing and put my arms around his middle, that seemed a bit awkward seeing as i barely knew him. "if you don't want to fall off you might want to hold on."

i wrapped my arms around his middle gingerly just before he pushed off from the ground, causing the broom to shoot into the air.

my arms that were loosely wrapped around him tightened as the wind blew against us. i could feel his toned stomach underneath my arms and through his shirt, causing me to blush profusely. thankfully, he couldn't exactly see me.

"you alright back there, leola?"

"yea, great!" i yelled through the rushing sounds of the wind.

some time later oliver landed us in the spot we took off from. i collapsed in a heap onto the soft grass, oliver following suit.

"that was crazy, i mean i've heard of quidditch but it wasn't a huge thing back at ilvermorny." i told him with a small laugh.

"how can it not be a huge thing at ilvermorny, quidditch is amazing!"

"tell me about it." i stretched one of my arms to the side to grab a small flower that was laying in the grass, twiddling it between my fingers after. "what hogwarts house did you say you were in?"

"i didn't, i'm in gryffindor though." oliver told me proudly.

"that's the brave house right?" i asked, "founded by godric gryffindor."

"yea." he nodded while turning his head to look at me, "how'd you know that?"

"i read hogwarts a history. twice."

oliver let a loud laugh slip through, "of course you would."

"yea? you know me that well?" i challenged.

oliver smiled faintly, "no, but i'd like to."
