i entered the old library in diagon ally with a small sigh before heading to my favorite chair in the back. i came to this library quite often, seeing as it was one of the only wizarding libraries with a muggle literature section.
i crossed my legs gingerly while tucking some hair behind my ear. i fished one of my favorite books out of my backpack and opened it, starting to read after.
around what i presumed to be an hour later i heard a small shuffle to the side of me, i turned my head to look at the boy who was grabbing a book out of the shelf.
"sorry, i just had to grab this one." he said in a thick scottish accent while holding up the old book with one hand. the book read the best quidditch plays, ranked.
"no worries." i offered a small smile to the boy. he was handsome, short brown hair and these deep brown eyes.
"what book are you reading? if you don't mind me asking." the boy asked while leaning against the shelf across from me.
i shrugged, "just the great gatsby, i've read it before."
"i've heard about that one, i'm not much of a reader but it seems alright." he responded.
"you like quidditch?"
he nodded while straightening up, out of excitement. "i love quidditch. i'm the captain of one of the teams at my school."
"oh really, that's amazing. what school do you go to?" i asked with curiosity.
"hogwarts, heading into my seventh year."
"i'm actually transferring there," i informed him with an excited expression, "i'm going into my seventh year aswell."
"really? maybe i'll see you there."
i nodded happily at him, "that'd be nice."
"so tell me more about your book."
this boy, who i still did not know the name of, and i had been talking in the library for a while before i realized the time.
"oh it's already nine, i should probably head home before my mum starts to worry." i told him while placing my book in my backpack and standing up.
"right," he nodded, "well it was a pleasure."
i smiled at him before i pulled my backpack over my shoulder.
i wasn't sure what to do next, so i awkwardly walked past him and started for the exit.
"what's your name?" i heard him ask loudly.
i turned to him with a surprised expression, but i had to admit i'm glad he said something before i had the time to leave.
"leola winters."
"i'm oliver wood."
"pleasure. i'll see you later oliver wood." i smiled at him before walking off.
i exited the library with a small click of the door and started making my way to my house.
it was a short distance from diagon ally, the walk gave me time to think. i liked that.
i kicked a small pebble on the street as my thoughts wandered to the boy from the library, oliver wood. i hadn't had many friends back in the states, if i could even call oliver a friend, but it was nice to talk to somebody other than my mum.
we left the states right after school ended, which had been about a month ago. life in london was a lot different, but i liked it a lot more than the states.
eventually i found myself in front of my house, there was one dim light lit that i could see from my place on the front step.
i opened the front door while jingling my keys absentmindedly.
"leola?" my mother called out from where i assumed was the kitchen.
"hey mum," i spoke while entering the kitchen, where she was drinking a mug full of coffee, "sorry, i didn't realize how late it was."
"no worries honey," she smiled faintly, "you should head up to bed."
i nodded, "okay, night mum."
"night sweetie." i heard her say before i left the room and started up the stairs to my room.
i had finished putting all my belongings in my room a couple days ago, thankfully. the rest of the house had boxes scattered everywhere.
oliver mentioned he attends hogwarts, ironically being where i'm set to attend school.
i dug out a book i had bought from diagon ally out of my closet titled hogwarts: a history. i laid down on my bed and began reading.
