today oliver and i were set to meet up at the library we had first met at. to say i was excited was an understatement.
i awoke with a smile on my face and prepared myself for the day, replacing my patterned shorts and black sweater for some jeans and a purple short sleeve shirt with two buttons near the neckline. i slipped on my converse and grabbed my backpack before making my way out of my room.
i entered the kitchen to see my mum drinking coffee while reading the paper at the kitchen table.
"good morning leola. if your hungry i could make some breakfast for you but..." she eyed me and the backpack that was over my shoulder, "it looks like you're heading out?"
i gave a small nod, "yea i was just heading to the library."
"you've been leaving the house a lot, did you meet anyone in particular?"
i bit my lip anxiously, "erm- yea actually. i've been hanging out with this guy, he's super sweet."
"okay, just- you know, be careful." mum told me warily.
i nodded again, "i will. bye mum."
i exited the kitchen and made my way to the front door. by now my mum had unpacked a bit more and the house was more put together. although the walls did look empty, mum would've hung photos of me but most of them had also had my father in them.
i left the house with a small click of the door.
"hey olly." i smiled at the boy as he walked over to where i was sitting in the library.
he laughed in response, "hey lia."
"where we headed today?" i asked while slipping my book back into my bag.
"i was thinking we could head to the leaky cauldron? maybe grab some lunch or butterbeers?"
"sounds lovely." i stood up before we both started for the exit of the library.
we walked along the cobblestone street in diagon ally, the shops had gotten busier due to the fact that school starts in two weeks.
it was almost as if oliver had read my mind as he asked, "are you excited for school?"
i shrugged, "you could say that." i eyed the little pub as we entered through the old creaky doors. "you're not going to ditch me for your friends when we get there right?" i joked, although it didn't necessarily feel like just a joke.
oliver shook his head, "i could never."
we both took seats across from each other at a tiny table by a dusty window.
"you've had a butterbeer before, right?" oliver questioned.
i chuckled a bit, "no actually, butterbeer isn't very popular in the states. we mostly drink gilly water."
"huh, that's interesting." he said as a look of confusion spread across his face.
after oliver had ordered two butterbeers from the waitress, insisting that i 'had to try some' we fell back into a conversation about school.
"i've been meaning to ask you, will you get supplies for school with me? i'm not really sure if my mum would want to go considering she's a muggle." i mumbled the last part mostly to myself.
i wasn't blaming my mum, she wanted to keep me rooted to the fact that i was a wizard. it's just harder for her since she's a muggle, but i get it.
"of course, i'd like that. wait till you see the robes," oliver laughed, "they're all black and have no shape, it's actually kind of creepy."
"oh that sounds awful." i groaned.
"two butterbeers." the waitress mumbled while setting our drinks in front of us and then walking away.
"go on," oliver gestured with a smile, "try it."
i took a large swig of the foamy drink, oliver wasn't wrong. this stuff was amazing. i set my mug down and stared at oliver for a minute, "i love butterbeer."
he snorted at my reaction, "i'm not surprised, oh you got a little something." he mumbled while reaching across the table to swipe the foam off my upper lip. i felt my cheeks flame up.
"oh erm- thank you."
oliver was about to respond before we heard another voice call out, "is that oliver wood?"
"with a girl!" another one exclaimed from across the pub.
we both turned our heads to catch view of a set of twins, standing around their family.
"oh you two!" a woman, who i assumed to be their mother, exclaimed.
"sorry lia, they're on quidditch with me, would you mind if we went and said hello?" oliver asked.
i shook my head, "no of course not."
oliver and i stood up from our little table and made our way over to the large family of redheads.
"why hello oliver, who's this lovely lady?" one of the twins questioned.
i stood there awkwardly as oliver let out a deep chuckle, "fred, george this is leola winters. she's transferring to hogwarts this year."
"pleasure." one of the twins said while winking at me.
"delighted." the other one added.
i nodded awkwardly, "nice to meet you as well."
"they're the beaters for the gryffindor quidditch team." oliver informed me, "oh is that harry?" he looked over to a boy with black, unruly hair who was with a girl and another red haired boy.
"yes it is, wood." one of the twins nodded while trying to hide his laughter, to tell the truth i couldn't tell the difference between the two.
"harry's our seeker." oliver told me, to which i nodded.
a couple minutes later we found ourselves walking over to where harry stood with his two friends.
"harry," oliver said while shaking his hand, "nice to see you."
i stood awkwardly to the side as harry and oliver conversed, until the bushy haired girl came up to me. "hello, i'm hermione granger." she stuck out her hand, to which i gladly shook.
"leola winters."
"you don't go to hogwarts, right? i haven't seen you around before." she said confidently. this girl was observant.
"no," i shook my head, "i'm transferring there this year. heading into my seventh year."
"that's nice, i'm going into third year."
our conversation was interrupted by oliver, "hey lia, you ready to head out?"
