Chapter 4: Valentines Surprises

———8 months later——-

Kageyama blinked away to the constant buzzing of his phone, meaning he was either receiving a hundred messages or someone was calling him. He picked it up and glanced at it, seeing that someone was calling him. His parents.

"Shit. The hell do they want." Reluctantly, he answered. "Hello?" Kageyama sat up and rubbed his eyes, not prepared for what was about to be said to him. "Tobio. Are you really just waking up? No matter. Your mother and I would like to know if-" "no." He wasn't having any of it.

He had a very strong dislike for both of his parents considering they'd always talked down to minority groups and him his whole life. Coming out to them, let alone telling their judge mental selves anything about his personal life, was an action of another world.

"Tobio don't be like that. Ever since you inherited that money from your grandfather you've been so distant. What's so bad about us?" Kageyama pulled the phone from his ear and hung up, only for it to ring and be his father again a few seconds later.

"To hell with you." He put his phone on silent and threw it onto the bed, getting up to get ready for morning practice. He slipped on his uniform, grabbed his volleyball bag, said goodbye to Riceball and left the house, without his phone.

Once he arrived to the gym, his fathers voice still echoing in his mind, Hinata immediately noticed that soemthing was off. "Kageyama?? What's wrong? You look sad and you didn't answer any of my texts." Kageyama lifted his head up and didn't say anything before walking to the locker room, brushing off Tsukishima as he tried to say hello.

"Jeez, what's his deal?" Yamaguchi shrugged and they both turned to look at Hinata. "You've gotta know what's wrong with him dont you??" Hinata did know because Kageyama only ever got like this when his family was involved, but acted like he didn't.

"I'll go check on him." Yamaguchi nodded while him and Tsukishima began setting up the net. Hinata walked to the locker room, slowly openedthe door and found Kageyama sluggishly putting on his shoes and putting his stuff into his locker.

"Hey...." Kageyama looked up and saw Hinata close to door as he approached him. "Was it your parents again?" Kageyama looked off to the side, hands brushing down his pockets when he realized he couldn't feel his phone. "Shit. Sorry I didn't answer. I kinda left my phone at home. But.....yeah my dad called. Said I've been distant or some shit but I didn't care to listen to what he had to say so I hung up."

Hinata sat on the bench beside Kageyama and leaned his head on his shoulder. "Let me guess. They want you to come see them again?" Kageyama nodded, though unsure if that's exactly what his father meant. "Don't go. Don't let him manipulate you. My family is your family remember?" "Yeah I know. Idiot."

Kageyama kissed the top of Hinata's head and stood up. "Don't worry. I'll be fine." Yamaguchi suddenly opened the locker room door and motioned for them both to come out. "Cmon lovebirds get out here. And Kageyama. Stay afterwards I wanna talk to you about something." Kageyama rolled his eyes but nodded as he headed out into the gym, Hinata following him.

"Okay dude. Talk to me, somethings wrong." Yamaguchi leaned against the wall outside of the gym, Tsukishima standing beside him. "Does he have to be here?" Kageyama pointed to Tsukishima, who didn't do anything but give him a look. "Chill dude. I don't really care. Honestly I'm just waiting for Tadashi." Kageyama half rolled his eyes, sitting on the concrete step.

"What do you want to know?" Yamaguchi leaned down and sat beside him. "Just whatever. You've been off lately and I know Hinata's leaving soon and that's probably what got you all worked up but that can't be the only thing goin on. Trust me." He leaned in and darted his eyes to Tsukishima and made sure to whisper so he wouldn't hear him, "I'd know."
