The envelope sat at Regulus' desk begging for him to open it. Not that he needed to, Regulus was fairly certain it was an invitation to professor Slughorn's big group gathering or whatever. Regulus had easily become one of Slughorn's most favored students, seeing as he excelled in the subject, however that did not mean Regulus liked any part of the class whatsoever.
He held back the urge to toss the letter in the bin as he walked by, but nonetheless slipped it inside his bag. He hurried out of the potions classroom and headed down the hallway toward the Slytherin common room.
Sighing, he entered quietly and made his way to sit on the armchair in front of the fire. He slowly reached into his bag and pulled out Slughorn's letter. As he expected, he was invited to join the man for dinner at his so-called 'slug club' tomorrow evening. Regulus was disturbed just by the thought of going, but he knew that he had to.
Just as he was about to dispose of the object, the infamous duo Avery and Mulciber entered followed by their posse. Regulus rolled his eyes, knowing too well what was going to come next.
"Well there he is, our brand new seeker." Avery spoke sarcastically. Regulus huffed his chest out as if to show he didn't care what insults Avery spat at him.
"Oh come on, he's good, let it go mate." A very timid Evan tried to shut his friend down.
"Hey Avery, look what Black's got. It's a slug club invitation." Mulciber laughed.
"Awwww, gonna go suck up to dear Sluggy are you, Regulus? I do hope you'll say hi for me." Avery cooed, getting to close for Regulus' liking.
"Oh piss off Avery, you're just jealous you didn't get an invite." At this point, talking shit was the only way Regulus saw himself getting out of the situation.
"And have to hang out with all those mudbloods? No way. Have fun, blood traitor, I'll make sure to tell your mummy and daddy. They'd have no problem banishing you like they did with your sad excuse for a brother."
At this, Regulus stood up abruptly, face hardened and for a split second he thought he saw fear in Avery's eyes, "Say it again."
The room stood silent.
"Go ahead, please, Avery. Tell me again just how well my parents would react."
Avery stood stunned in silence, Regulus' tall figure standing over him.
"Go suck a dick, Avery." Regulus spat, shoving past the group of people, exiting the common room as fast as he possibly could. He would've gone to his dorm, only it was also Avery's so that seemed counter productive.
He wasn't quite sure where he was going until his feet stopped at a grand willow tree in front of the black lake. He took a seat beneath the shade, staring vacantly at the water. All he wanted was to be alone, but apparently peace and quiet was not a privilege that Regulus was granted.
"Reggie! Fancy seeing you here! Mind if I sit?" The voice rang inside Regulus' ears and before he could answer, the blonde girl had taken a seat beside him, "well, you're already sitting down so yeah, okay."
The girl let out a high pitched laugh that Regulus had to hold back his grimace from, "Oh Reggie, aren't you funny."
Regulus shut his eyes and hoped his face didn't give away the annoyance he was feeling. "So, we have a hogsmeade trip coming up in a few weeks and I was thinking we could go together. We could stop by a few stores and then maybe grab some butterbeer, what do you think?" Maeve asked.
Regulus was speechless for a moment. She had never been this direct and he had absolutely no idea how to turn her down. "Oh, Maeve..." he started, but as he spoke he caught sight of four boys and his eyes met Potter's. James seemed to scan Regulus' face and turned to see him sitting next to Maeve as realization struck his face. He turned to tell Sirius something and suddenly all four were walking toward the two sitting beneath the tree. Regulus put his face in his hands as his brother spoke up.
