"What is it doctor? Is my wife alright? Please say something!" said Edmund impatiently, not being able to withstand the doctor's silence.

"There is nothing wrong with her but I would advise you to take good care of her in the coming months. Any form of stress is highly not recommended. It would drastically affect her health as well as the baby" answered the doctor calmly as he busily scribbled down a prescription for Rose.

"There is nothing wrong you say! Why would she faint then doctor?  My wife is in danger and you dare say she is alright! You... you...Wait...Whatt! The baby? You mean...I....No we....are becoming parents again?" whispered a stunned Edmund, his anger receding slowly.

The doctor just silently handed him the prescription and made his way out of the door with a smile.

Samantha ran towards a still stunned Edmund who seemed to be caught in a trance and gave him a hug with a wide smile pasted on her face.

"Congratulations....this is just too good to be true. I think we all needed some happiness from a long time. You are going to be a daddy again..!!!" She exclaimed, squeezing the life out of him.

"Yes. I'll be a daddy again..." he mumbled, unshed tears filling his eyes as he looked lovingly at his wife who seemed to be awakening from her drowsy state with all the noise.

"What's going on? Why am I sleeping here on the couch in the middle of the night? And why are you two looking so happy and sentimental?" asked Rose with a yawn, as she scrambled on to her feet still a little wobbly due to the dizziness.

"Stop trying to stand. Mothers to be just need to sit and give orders to other mere mortals like us. We are at your service madam" said Samantha, curtsying to Rose in a dramatic manner all the while bouncing on her feet with delight.

"Sammy are you drunk? Or is it the full moon today that makes you go crazy?" asked Rose with a laugh which was met with dead silence and expectant looks from the two of them. Her laughter faded away as slowly and steadily the truth began to sink in.

"I'm going to be a mother? A mother! Oh My God!" She yelled with delight as she excitedly threw herself into Edmund's arms.

Samantha watched the two of them in their little bubble of joy with a tinge of sadness. She fiddled with the edges of her sleeves all the while absently wondering how her son was doing? Whether he was truly loved and wanted by his adopted parents or not.

So lost was she in her thoughts that she didn't realize that Edmund's eyes were on her sombre face, noticing the sadness flickering on her face.

He softly whispered to Rose to head up to bed as it was already late into the night, silently gesturing towards Samantha with a nod. Rose nodded back with understanding, taking in the sadness present on her face and silently left the room.

"Are you okay?" asked Edmund, breaking the silence that seemed to have taken over the room making Samantha jump in the process.

"Uh what? Yeah I'm okay. Where is Rose? Sorry I was caught up with my thoughts" she answered with a half smile.

"Why did you lie?" Samantha asked out of the blue causing Edmund's heart to lurch with anxiety and guilt.

"I don't know what you mean." he replied, carefully pretending not to understand.
"Don't play dumb with me Edmund. You know exactly what I'm talking about. Why did you lie to Rose that Jack is dead?" She asked fixing him with an unwavering look.

"It's really late Sammy, I need to get going... I'll talk to you tomorrow." he said,  trying to leave the room in a hurry. "Well, I'll just ask Rose then." Samantha quipped nonchalantly with a shrug.
