(Wolffe's POV)
The three vanguards had been staring at me for over an hour, Wire-14 and Hyx hadn't left my side, and Phox was staring indignantly at them from my cloak. This... this is... awkward... No one made a sound until a second metal man with blue skin and a horn looked to the other vanguards.
"Well I think it's awesome." He gestured to me, before crossing his arms and tilting his head. "He can hold two guns instead of just one! That's twice the killing power!"
"Cayde." A woman with dark skin growled, looking at the metal man with a cold stare. Why doesn't he have a number like Wire-14? Or... have I been saying it all wrong... Do they not include the numbers?
"Zavala, I didn't mean to resurrect him, but since I have, I demand he be treated the same as any other guardian!" Phox growled, floating out of my cloak and in front of a large awoken wearing heavy armor.
Zavala growled, staring Phox down, and making Cayde and the dark-skinned woman back up slightly. "Ghost, I need yo-"
I quickly cut him off with a growl, despite him being large I towered over all of them. "Her name is Phox."
Zavala growled again, staring at me before looking back to Phox, who was snuggling into my cloak and trying to calm down. "Phox... I need you to understand that we don't have the facilities to keep him here."
Cayde shrugged, stepping forwards and tilting his head. "It wouldn't be that hard for me to-" With a glare from Zavala, he quickly shut up and stepped back again. "Okay... I'll just shut up now..."
"Make the facilities." Phox growled.
"To support a single guardian?" Zavala countered.
"If he was an awoken you would let him right in. The only reason you don't want to put in the effort to keep him here is because he's a fallen." Phox bit back, aggressively floating towards Zavala.
Zavala was quiet for a moment, before growling at Phox. "Fallen don't belong in the last city, or the tower. Guardian or not."
If he talks down to Phox one more time, I'm snapping his neck. I growled slightly at Zavala, before gently pulling Phox back to my cloak to try and calm her.
"Look, he's a guardian, which means he's here to defend the traveler and humanity, regardless of his species." Phox said, calmly snuggling into my cloak yet again. "Let him prove it."
Everyone was quiet for a moment before Zavala crossed his arms and turned away from me and Phox, talking with Cayde, and the third vanguard, who seemed to be a human.
"Uh, don't worry big guy, I'm sure Cayde will sort this out." Hyx whispered, patting my shoulder to try and cheer me up.
"Maybe... Zavalas so thick-headed he won't listen to anything beyond his own ego." Wire growled.
I tilted my head, looking to the pair with some confusion. "Is he not your kell? The one in charge?" Is it normal for them to say such rude things to their kell? I don't like him, but they're his subordinates... right?
Hyx smiled, rolling her yellow eyes with a small smile. "He's not so much a kell as he is a thick-headed titan. Everyone just unanimously picked him as leader for some reason."
"To be the leader, that is, the vanguard was... Well I don't actually know what makes the vanguard special, just that they're the ones in charge... Me and Hyx just stick with Cayde, he's the only one that we respect... well, he's the only one that we like." Wire continued.
"Yeah, Ikoras pretty cool, just, too serious." Hyx finished, wire nodding in agreement. Hmm... then I should try to be under Cayde's leadership?
"How does one join Cayde?'" I asked, tilting my head and making two of my glowing eyes reflect their glow off Wire's OD green skin.
The pair frowned, Hyx shrugging and Wire looking at the roof to think. "It's more... the hunter life chooses you than you choose the hunter life." Hyx finally answered. "Hunters... are the ones in the field, the one's scouting, and adventuring, and always getting into trouble."
"Sharpshooters, cloaks, dumbass energy..." Wire whacked Hyx as he kept talking, Hyx smiling with a small giggle. "Are words you could use to describe us. Right, little robot?"
A ghost appeared next to Wire, having a blue shell, and its cyan eye staring at the three vanguards behind me. "Yes, I guess you could use those descriptive words, but I recommend... scrappy, clever, quick, nifty, wanderer, l-"
A second ghost appeared next to Hyx, unlike the first, he was white and had little grey spots that looked like some kind of human tool painted all over him. He cut off the first with a snicker. "You guys are thinking a lot into this, huh?"
"Oh screw off Fixer, Blue was just trying to be nice." Hyx responded with a smile.
That looks nice, they look like good friends... kind of like a crew... I looked down at Phox, who softly snuggled deeper into my cloak, and made me chuckle in joy. I promise to be like that with you, little Phox, caring and careful.
"Alright, so, we figured something out." Cayde walked back, the one named Ikora tailing him, with Zavala in the back. "Hyx, you and Wire are gonna watch him, he's a part of your fireteam for now until we figure out what class he is."
Hyx smiled, giving a little salute. "Sick, boss!"
Fixer groaned. "We could barely fit him into the blue-ridge last time! This is why the knifepoint is the better ship!"
"They're both Arcadia-class jumpships, and yours is much more heavily damaged than ours." blue responded.
"Come on you five." Wire grumbled, swatting Fixer over to Hyx while pattingBblue's head and waving me on.
Maybe this won't be so bad. I thought to myself, following them while happily petting Phox.
(Third-person POV, somewhere in the EDZ.)
"The Baroness and her insufferable wretches escaped our grasp..."
"How?"
"It seems something drove them off before we could cleanse their filthy hides from their ketch."
"No matter... We will get them, and the last city soon enough... It is the traveler's will."
"Of course, kell of demons."
(hope you guys liked this one, its long overdue, and I hope you don't mind it having taken so long. hope I see y'all again next time, whenever that may be!
