captain's POV

"So we are essentially weaponless, you have no shield, and we also don't have a ship, what DO we have." The little ghost floated around my head, she had tilted her shell to the side to give me what resembled a questioning glance.

In response, I offered her a shrug. "I haven't tested my short-range teleporter, maybe that still works." I quickly checked my waist to see that my two shock blades were still there. I drew them to see if either of them had even the slightest spark. Sadly all they did was sizzle, before a small amount of smoke rose from their blades. "Do not worry little ghost, we will find exactly what we need. The great machine favors us, I can feel it."

My ghost rolled her eye before flying into my cloak. "I wish you would just call it the traveler." I chuckled before gently petting Phox on the top of her shell.

(Small timeskip brought to you by phox trying to warm her shell in the captain's fur cloak.)

In the past few days that we had been traveling together, phox taught me about my new responsibility. She told me how there were enemies of my light, the hive, the taken, the vex, and the red army. They all wanted to either destroy the great machine and its light or to bastardize it for their own pourposes. Even my own species wanted to steal the light from humanity. Which somewhat confused me.

"Little Phox i have a question." Me and Phox were currently crawling through a horde of rusty airplanes. "Why doesn't humanity share the traveler's light with the fallen. Especially since my species fight to regain our past technology and might."

Of course Phox became nervous at my question. She had been reluctant to tell me about the fallen in the first place. "Its complicated, many guardians are very upset about the way the fallen attacked them in the past. Several fallen have supposedly committed hanus acts in their crusade for the traveler's light. They have also attempted to take the last city on several occasions. The battle of six fronts was one suc-" Phox was interrupted by a loud shrieking noise, before she could continue.

The scratching of feet against dirt and rust hit my ears before I was suddenly tackled by a small and fast-moving object. I hit the ground on my back, and Phox was knocked out of my cloak, and skidded against the ground for a few moments efore she could get back in the air.

Phox, I must keep her safe. I threw my attacker off of me, and pushed myself off the ground. From my now standing position, I could see that my attacker was a vandal wearing a grimey green cloak. The vandal growled before standing up and screeching at me. "You arent welcome here WOLF, leave before we take your head."

I heard more scampering, and looked around to see multiple dregs and vandals watching me from the delapidated aircraft. Some held wire rifles and shrapnel launchers. Others held shock daggers, and shock grenades. where is my ghost. Before i could even look for her, my ghost floated up to beside my head.

"We should just leave, we're outmanned, and outgunned." I was going to argue, but the vandal suddenly gasped. My head swiveled towards him to see him pointing at me.

"WOLF, where did you get that ghost." I didn't reply to the vandal, instead I gently pushed phox back into my cloak in an attempt to protect her. "GIVE US THE GHOST, OR WE WILL RIP IT FROM YOUR GRASP AND TURN YOUR CORPSE INTO THE BARONESS."

(sorry, this part has been a bit overdue, but next chapter, the captain will meet the baroness. will she be an enemy, or a friend.
