We made our way out of the restaurant and back to the vehicles. Kota steered me over to Mr. Blackbourne’s car and opened the back door for me. I looked up at him, not wanting to ask, but wanting to know why I’m not going with North and the guys again. Kota just smiled, helped me into the seat, and closed the door behind me. He walked around the car, yelled something to the other guys, and climbed into the back seat with me. Once he was belted in, he reached out and took my hand. "We each get a segment of the drive with you. It's only fair, right?" He grinned. Dr. Green and Mr. Blackbourne joined us in the car, and we were off.

Dr. Green turned in his seat and looked at me. “So, Miss Sang. Having fun yet?”

I grinned. “Yes, I am. Thank you. Dinner was wonderful. I’d never even heard of hibachi before.”

Mr. Blackbourne looked at me through the rearview mirror. “That was our guess, Miss Sorenson. I’m fairly confident that dinner will not be your only first this evening.” Dr. Green shot him a look, but Mr. Blackbourne seemed to ignore it.

“What’s next?” I tried to act nonchalant, but I’m nervous and excited about what else they might have planned for me.

Dr. Green chuckled. “You’re not very good with surprises, are you?”

“I don’t know that I’ve  had many good ones, so I’m not sure.”

Kota leaned over and kissed my cheek. “So, here’s to a night full of wonderful surprises.” I smiled up at him, but as night had begun to fall, I don’t know if he could see it. We fall into a quiet peacefulness as Mr. Blackbourne drives us through the city.

Suddenly, Dr. Green’s phone rand. He answered quickly. “This is Dr. Green.” A pause. “How many inbound?” Another pause. He sighed. “I’ll be there in 10 minutes.” He turned in the seat to look at me.

“I’m so sorry, Pookie, but I have to end my evening early. There was a multicar pile-up, and the hospital is about to get 15 patients. I’m afraid duty calls.” He looked heartbroken. He turned to Mr. Blackbourne. “Can you drop me off?”

Mr. Blackbourne looked at the clock on the dash. “Yes. Mr. Lee, I will drop you and Miss Sorenson off at the door, then run Dr. Green to the ER. I should be back before… before it begins.”

The rest of the drive is in silence, but not the peacefulness from just a few moments earlier. Mr. Blackbourne pulled up to the curb in front of a tall, well-lit building. Kota jumped out, ran around, and opened the door for me. Reaching in, he helped me out of the car, and closed the door. Mr. Blackbourne rolled down his window and looked at me.

“Miss Sorenson, I will be right back. I can just imagine how amazed you will be in just a few moments. Enjoy.”

Kota and I walked around the car, and Dr. Green jumped out. He wrapped me up in a hug, shocking me just a little. “Pookie, I really am sorry. If there was any way…”
