Vita Novus/NEW LIFE—

what do you say when everything you have ever known has blown up in your face? So New Life it was

After the shock of Pa leaving, I couldn't help it, you would have too, I cried and cried until my new outfit was wet from all my tears Ma never said nothin; she just kept driving the beast until she came to a small settlement by the sea. I could hear the sound of waves crashing before we stopped. Salt was smelt, as I knew Pa used it for lotsa things back home. It was especially good for getting rid of left-over bits of flesh. Just thinking that, made me sigh. The beast was swallowed up by a large room with other cars of different shapes and sizes. They stood next to each other in a silent row. I wasn't going to describe each one, but Red had a peak over my shoulder and asked me to say what they were like. At that time in his life, he had never been away from home, so I kinda felt sorry for him and that is why I described the cars in Ma's garage. This is just for my bro. Ma parked her sleek red sports car; according to Red was a Ferrari, next to a big black monster that looked like a hearse. This one was a Rolls Royce that Red said was a very fine machine. He said many planes had Rolls Royce jet engines in them. He also said lots special cars were used to carry dead mortals to be buried, were Rolls Royce vehicles.

...Reminisce time again...

Red and I had read a book about a horse drawn hearse for when some dead people were carried in the hearse to a cemetery to be buried. We found a box with wheels in one of the caves and then we harnessed two of the hounds to our box and had turns in carrying each other to be buried. Those hounds were as large as bulls, and twice as ugly, with huge heads, and two sets of shiny red eyes each side of their heads. There were a few problems with that. Number one we couldn't dig a hole to put in the box and number two the hounds rebelled and just dropped on the ground after our first try at burying each other and they refused to move. Pa caught us trying to shift them. He asked us what we were doing and when we told him he laughed and said good luck trying to move them. We gave up after we were exhausted, so we let them loose. They ran up to their sentry posts outside Pa's main judge chamber and dropped down with their heads on their paws and went to sleep. Boy did they snore loudly.

The next vehicle was called a van and it was shaped like a huge loaf of bread the cook made for our snacks. It had a big door at the back that when opened displayed a large open space. It was painted white and was used to get Ma's food and booze. It had the same symbols on the front and back like the one Mary took us to the hotel. And that dear brother was all there was in that large garage except for the equipment over in the other corner to warm the house in winter and cool it in summer. Also, there were funny looking motorised shovels for pushing the snow away from Ma's driveway. That was another surprise for me, snow. I'll describe it later on. Red was curious, but I made him wait until I was ready to divulge my experience with snow the first time, I saw it in the flesh and not on the movies.

My mother beckoned me to get out as she unfolded from the seat and stood up in the brightly lit cell. I wondered if this was gonna be where I would be held and watched over by these metal monsters. 'Welcome Reubena to your new home,' Ma said gaily.

As if, I shivered and began to crouch behind the black monster.

'Reubena dear what are you doing? Come I will introduce you to the household before I show you your bedroom suite.'

She moved over and grabbed my left hand and waited until I stood. I was being a little kind because when she grabbed my hand, she almost yanked my shoulder out of its socket. It hurt like hell, but I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of seeing it affect me. Two can play at this game lady. I thought.
