Harry didn't go down to Great Hall that morning instead, he finalized lesson planning for the day. He was as ready as he would ever be. They all began to file in Ginny, smiling as she passed him, Dean, who looked like he was trying to engage Ginny in conversation, Ron, Hermione, Luna, and several others. Once everyone was settled in, Harry addressed the class. He told them they would spend very little time in the classroom and most of it outside learning hands-on techniques. He then went to the door and motioned for them to follow him to the grounds. He asked for a volunteer and most unusually Hermione's hand was second into the air beaten by Dean's. "Dean come on up." Harry noticed him whisper to Ginny as he passed and he watched her eyes flair. "Something you'd like to share with the group Dean," he asked and Dean's face went red. "No 'sir'," Dean replied like it was the worst thing he could think. Harry however ignored it. "Now I'd like Dean to help show you all a demonstration of dueling while using non verbal spells. Dean will attack me when I say go and I will show you how to defend against an attack when you don't when or what is coming. Now I want to make this very clear, stunning and disarming only. No accidents on the first day please. Ready Dean? 3-2...". But Dean already whipped his wand and ropes whipped out of his wand at Harry's face. With a flick of his wand cast them aside. Dean then shot a curse at Harry which he deflected with a shield charm that knocked Dean off of his feet. "Detention already Mr.Thomas," Harry said standing over him. Leave and don't come back until you've grown up. I'll see you at eight o'clock tonight. Dean got up, brushed his cloak and stormed off to the school. "Now, no curses, disarming and stunning only. Now break up into pairs." Everyone was staring at Harry in awe having so easily defeated Dean who had even taken cheap shots at him. After everyone broke into pairs the lesson went much more smoothly. Everyone seemed to have improved majorly from the DA meetings three years prior. As the bell rang Harry called the class to gain their attention and said their only assignment was to master stupify without talking as only Hemrione, Ron, and Ginny had been successful. The rest of Harry's lessons were much easier. He taught mostly by the book and used himself as an example to use certain spells and defensive techniques. The only homework he enjoyed giving out was practical homework. The most important way to learn was to practice wand movements and the spells themselves. As Harry said goodbye to his final class, he saw Ginny outside waiting for him smiling. He looked to make sure the coast was clear and invited her to his office. As soon as the door closed Ginny began snogging Harry. After a few minutes Harry pulled back. "Someone's excited," he said laughing. She hit him playfully back. "Hey!" "Yes, sir? She replied back. "You're a just a little tease aren't you?" He said, still smiling. "You know it," Ginny answered, giving him another kiss. "So Ginny, I've been meaning to ask you," Harry said pulling back. "Have you given any thought to the roster for the Gryffindor team this year?"
"Well of course I'm keeping you. Bringing back Demelza from the old team might be a good idea. I'm not sure about beaters. We have to have tryouts for them. Ron wasn't a bad keeper so I think I'll be keeping him. And Dean worked well with us, although he can be ignorant."
"What do you mean Ginny? Did he say something to you during class?"
"Well in all honesty, he's never gotten over me, continues hitting on me and hinting that he'd take care of me better than you ever could." Harry sat there for a moment. "So that's why he acted out in class. He was trying to win favor by out dueling me." Ginny laughed. "Yes, but that didn't go over well." Harry managed a smile. "I think I'll be having a discussion with Dean later tonight about his behavior. Together they began to discuss Gryfindoors hopes at the cup this upcoming year. Ginny left fifteen minutes to eight as Dean would be arriving for detention. Five minutes later there was a knock on the door. "Enter." Dean walked in and Harry gestured for him to sit in the chair across from him. After Dean sat down Harry began to explain the situation very carefully. "You do understand that Ginny no longer likes you right? Do you understand...". Harry raised his hand as Dean looked to interrupt before continuing. "Do you understand that in my class you will follow directions to the letter or you will not come back. Defense against the dark arts is not a game as we have all come to realize. Any hands on practice should be treated with upmost respect, effort and conduct. If I have to have this discussion with you again about your behavior in my class you will not be welcomed back is that understood?" Dean nodded. "But just so we're clear 'sir', I don't care what you say about Ginny, i promise you, one day, she'll be mine." "Well good luck with that Dean, now off to bed." "Dean," Harry called as Dean was halfway out the door. "If I get so much as the idea that you are giving my girlfriend a hard time, I swear I'll do everything in my power to ensure it doesn't happen again. Goodnight." Dean left the office smiling to himself. He pulled two small bottles from beneath his robes. He poured one into the other and headed back toward the common room.
Ginny woke up the next morning feeling wonderful she had started the day by receiving a gift on her night stand full of one of her favorite drinks, fresh pumpkin juice. She assumed Harry must have left it there for her. She was even able to meet up with Ron and Hermione on her way down to breakfast. She showed Hemrione the bottle Harry had presumably purchased for her. As they sat down at the Gryfindoor table, Ginny removed the bottle from her robes and set it on the table. She poured herself a glass from the bottle and began to drink. She felt wonderful but fuzzy. Hermione looked over at her, "you ok Ginny?" "I love him Hermione. I just can't stand it! Do you know where he is?" "I'm sure Harry's in his office Ginny," Ron relied not looking up. "Not Harry Ron,". Ginny said giggling in a way that was beyond unlike her drawing attention from those sitting nearby. "Ginny, who are you talking about?"
"Dean of course have you seen him?" Both Ron and Hermione looked at Ginny incredulously. "What!"
"Oh nevermind I see him and Ginny ran over completing ignoring Hemrione and Ron. At that moment Harry came down to the great hall and took Ginny's empty seat. "Is this yours Hermione," Harry asked. Hermione looked petrified. "You didn't give Ginny this?" Hermione asked pointing towards the bottle. "Of course not. I would've at least bought her a bigger bottle. You know I'm not cheap Hermione." As Hermione glanced down the table she noticed Ginny snogging Dean to everyone's surprise. Harry still hadn't noticed. Hermione trying to keep Harry distracted asked instead how Harry's first detention went last night. Harry explained Deans obsession with Harry and finally put the pieces together. A love potion. "Harry," Hermione said finally pointing out Dean and Ginny. "I think she she may have been slipped a love potion." Harry siezed the bottle and with Hermione in tow sprinted out of the hall in the direction of the dungeons.
Harry and Hermione ran into Proffesor Slughorn with Ron following behind. "How can I help you Mr.Potter?" "Sir, is there any test we can do to check for a love potion in this?" He held out the bottle. "Is this a personal request, or did someone use this on a student?" "Both sir." "Well come on in this shouldn't take very long. Just a simple spell." He waved his wand over the bottle and took a step back in surprise. "This is one of the stronger doses I've seen in a while. Whoever made this knew the person they were giving it too wouldn't be easy to hoodwink."
"Proffessor is there anything we can do? Is there an antidote you can make sir? This is a little out of my area of expertise and you were able to make it perfectly last time to help Ron." "Before he tried to kill me," Ron muttered getting an elbow form Hermione. "Of course Harry, if a student was given this we must take immidiate action. With this strong of a dose we are going to be looking at over the top physical attraction." "I swear to god I'm going to kill Dean!" Harry and Ron said together making professor Slughorn jump. That wouldn't happen to be Mr. Thomas would it?" "The very same Professor. Ron, Hermione, go find Ginny and bring her to my office I'll meet you both there. Ron and Hermione hurried off. "Expecto Patronun, 'go find the headmistress and tell them she'll have a guest in Dean Thomas soon enough for possible expulsion due to a love potion of strength that is completely debilitating,'" and his patronus took off down the hallway. Meanwhile Professor Slughorn had finally finished the antidote. "Thank you very much sir."
"You're welcome Mr. Potter." Harry took the potion and tore down the corridor heading back up to the school. A few minutes later he found himself outside his office where he saw Ron and Hemrione struggling to get a flailing Ginny towards his office. He ran over to them and helped get her inside. Once inside Harry immediately tipped the potion down her throat. Within a few seconds Ginny's eyes cleared and she stopped fighting. She looked as though she hadn't slept in a week. "Harry, what am I doing here, what happened?" "Dean gave you a love potion. A strength that even impressed Slughorn."
"Please tell me I didn't do anything with him," her voice was shaky and quiet. "No," Ron answered. "Hermione and I got back to the common room just in time." Harry gave Ginny a kiss on top of her head. "I'm going to escort Mr.Thomas to the headmistress office. Ron let's go. Dean wanted to make a point of dueling me last time, I want to make sure he doesn't try anything. Hermione, could you get Ginny up to Madam Pomfrey?" "Of course Harry," and she left with Ginny who started to cry into her shoulder.
