16- Leo's Letter

Leo's POV

I sucked in a deep breath to try as calm myself before opening the letter. It didn't work all that well. So I just gently peeled back the tape holding it closed and took the letter out of the envelope, still not yet unfolding the paper. I just stared at it in my hand.

I wasn't sure I really wanted to open this. Maybe it held something I didn't want to know about. But she left it for me, explaining more than the other note. I sighed and rubbed my eyes.

"Why is this so hard?" I asked myself. I shook my head, took another breath, and unfolded the note. As soon as I saw her handwriting, tears came to my eyes.

Leonardo,

I'm so glad that you've healed and managed to find this note. I assume you've seen the other one as well if you're now looking at this one.

I also guess you have some questions. And I'm the other letter, I promised I would answer some of them in here. So here goes...

I know you're probably sitting down somewhere, readying yourself to read this. I also know you're probably blaming yourself for whatever happened to me. If you're reading this; I assume I'm either still stuck in the Shredders lair, really injured, or dead. Either way, you're reading the note, and I'm glad you're still alive.

I know that what I did was probably rash and stupid, but I couldn't handle seeing you guys be hurt because of me. You brought me back to your world so I could have a better life, not so that Shredder would start targeting you guys just to get to me. I can't lose you guys. You're my family.

And on that note, please, please don't come for me. I am more than willing to stay with Shredder and even give up my life if it means keeping you guys safe. Just last year, I watched you guys on the TV, never thinking that you would all of a sudden pop into my life one night and flip my whole world upside down. I now realize that because you guys are real, I still need to keep you safe.

Leo, I never really said it before, but I love you. I love you so much and I don't know what I would do without you in my life now. And to see you get hurt-... because of me-... I couldn't let that happen. So please. Don't come looking for me, keep yourself safe, and make sure that your brothers are safe as well. You're their leader, fearless. Always have been, always will be.

But remember that you're also their older brother. They will always look up to you.

Maybe take it a little easier on Raph. Make sure to take interest in Donnie. And make sure to keep Mikey young forever. He keeps you guys together.

I love you. So much.

I could barely read the last sentences from the tears blurring my vision. I blinked and they finally fell down my cheeks.

So she did love me.

And now I only wish I told her that I loved her sooner.

I walked in a daze from her room back to the lab where Raph was still sitting. I didn't even notice that Donnie was gone. I just thumped down in the chair again, staring through my tears at her still body. I remember hearing Raph talk.

"So-... what does it say?" He asked. I just nodded, unable to talk in fear of breaking down. I handed it to him and he stared me down as he grabbed it.

"She did this to protect us. And we couldn't even protect her. We are the ones that brought her here... and now look." That thought rang through my head, and I didn't notice Raph stand up until he placed a hand on my shoulder. I glanced up at him, seeing his gold eyes mirror my own sad blue ones, then stood when he tugged me up by my arm.

I tensed when he came towards me suddenly, but relaxed when I realized what he was doing. He was hugging me. He never was a very touchy-feely kind of person, so I took the chance and hugged him back. His voice rang through the air loud and clear, yet filled to the brim with emotion.

"It'll be okay, Leo. Well be okay."

We stayed like that for a while until he pulled back and went to sit back down in the other chair.

"And I thought I told you to get some sleep and eat something," his sarcastic tone was back and I chewed the inside of my cheek.

"I know. I just-..." I stopped myself when my voice cracked.

"I know. Me too," said Raph quietly. "I don't think any of us will be sleeping well for a while." Then he sighed and slumped back in the chair.

"Have you checked on Mikey?" I asked, worried for my little brother. I wasn't sure how he was coping with seeing her-... you know.

"Haven't checked yet."

"And where did Donnie go?" I looked around for my genius brother but couldn't find him.

"Ah. I put him into his room. He didn't even move when I picked him up." He chuckled. I gave a small laugh.

"Don could sleep through a hurricane."

"I don't know how he does it. Since he can't fall asleep. But when he does," he blew out a breath. "Ya can't wake him up." Raph and I both chuckled. Then Raph let out a sigh.

"Well I guess I should go check up on Mikey. He seemed pretty shaken after what happened. I don't think I've seen him so quiet." He mused. I nodded in agreement.

"All of us were. Still are." I replied. He nodded slowly and got up, patting my shoulder once more before exiting the room. I let out a shaky sigh and rubbed a hand over my tired eyes. Glancing back at her body, I grabbed her hand and rubbed slow circles on the top, just like she would do for me.

"Come on, Y/n. Wake up."

Whew. Raph is still a sweetie even though he acts all tough😂

Leo's a mess, Raph is actually being nice, Donnie's dead asleep, and Mikeys MIA. Geez they're a mess😂
