Leonardo knew that he has lost weight. Not enough to be worried, but just enough to start being noticeable. But I guess two weeks of stress will do that to a person. Two weeks.
"Two weeks." He thought to himself as he watched her sleep. She hadn't woken up yet. And it was starting to worry him, and especially Donnie.
"If she doesn't wake up soon-... I'll have to take her off the monitors," that's the way Donnie put it. He didn't want to tell his brother that the chance of her waking up was getting worse and worse every day.
Leo on the other hand, Donnie was also worried about. He has started to lose weight, skipped out on training more often than normal, and wasn't sleeping because he was up all night either with her, on the surface alone, or training by himself.
"I'm fine," would be the answer Leo gave every single time Donnie asked if he was okay. Donnie had just started to give up on asking, but knew that if this got any worse he would probably have to sedate him to force him to sleep and give him and IV to make sure he wouldn't get dehydrated. And judging by the bags and purple rings underneath Leo's eyes that were even worse than Donnies, he was seriously considering the sedation.
"Hey dudette, Leo and Donnie," Mikey skipped into the lab with a comic in hand, though both Leo and Donnie knew he probably wouldn't sit still long enough to read it.
"Hey Mikey," greeted Leo. Donnie just nodded from his position at his desk.
"Donnie says your wounds are healing nicely, the burn mark will scar but other than that, you'll be back to normal in no time," he said happily to her as he sat in the chair next to her bed. Leo gave a small smile and got up, sneaking out of the lab to get some water. Donnie noticed him leave and curiously watched him sneak around the corner.
"Raph actually played a game with me today! I think it's because he's still stressed that you're asleep," Mikey said. He put one hand over hers and opened his comic, placing it beside her on the bed where he could read it. "But still, he played a video game with me, isn't that awesome?" Mikeys head shot up when he felt small movement under his hand. His eyes went wide. "DONNIE!"
"What?" Donnie glanced over at where his little brother was staring at Y/n. He frowned and walked over. "Mikey?"
"Her hand," he whispered. Donnie watched her hand. It didn't do anything. He sighed.
"Mikey, I'm pretty sure you're crazy," he said and Mikey grabbed his wrist to keep him from walking away.
"No! I'm not crazy! Just watch," he turned back to Y/n and tapped her hand with one finger. "Hey Y/n? I know I felt something. If you actually did something with your hand; do it again to prove to Donnie I'm not crazy," he said. They both waited-... and waited-... and waited.
Until Donnies eyes went wide as well. One of her fingers tapped against the bed. Donnie gasped.
"She's-... she's-... waking up," he said softly. He ran around her bed, adjusting IV drips and medications while Mikey watched her with wide eyes.
"So she isn't dead?"
"Of course not Mikey," scolded Donnie as he adjusted her pain meds. Once he was satisfied with the adjustments, he stood back and watched, waiting for any sign of movement.
"Y/n, it's Donnie. I know you can probably hear me. So if you can hear me, can you please tap your hand against the bed again?" He asked in a half commanding voice.
"Yeah, you better do what he says. He's using his 'doctor' voice," Mikey said in a spooky tone. They watched her finger tap one more against the bed and Donnie gave a sigh of relief.
"Thank god. It's not just reflex." He looked at Mikey. "Now that we know she's still okay, she should be waking up within the next few days."
"Really? Oh my gosh that's awesome! We gotta tell Leo!"
"Tell me what?" Leo re-entered the lab with a glass of water in one hand. Donnie frowned when he saw how slowly he was walking, his shoulders drooped way down compared to the normally perfect posture the leader had.
"Nothing, just how you really need some sleep," Donnie said quickly. Mikey looked at him curiously.
"That's not what-..."
"YES. It. Is. Michaelangelo." Donnie gritted his teeth and turned to Mikey in a 'shut up' way. Mikey shrunk back a little and Leo raised an eye ridge.
"Oookkaayyyyy," he stretched the word out suspiciously. Donnie calmly walked over to his desk again, Mikey stood in place, watching his brother with a confused look on his face.
"Leo," said Donnie sweetly. Leo raised an eye ridge as he sat down.
"Donnie."
"I'm just gonna take a blood sample if that's okay. I want to do some tests to see if your vitamins are still okay." Donnie smiled at him. Leo rolled his eyes.
"Donnie I said I was fine. Don't worry."
"Please Leo?" He sighed. "Just humour me this one time. I'm worried about you," Donnie looked down. Leo took in a deep breath and finally nodded.
"Fine. But make this quick," he sighed. Donnie smiled at him and grabbed a syringe in his one hand, grabbing a second one and hiding it behind his back. Mikey saw what he was doing and watched him carefully and suspiciously.
"Could you come here Mikey?" Donnie asked him and gave him a look that Mikey knew not to ignore.
"Umm. Sureee," he stretched out the word but Leo barely noticed. His eyes were drooping closed with how exhausted he was.
"Here Leo. Lay down so you don't fall while I'm taking your blood." Donnie waved around the empty syringe and Leo nodded and lay down on the cot. Donnie smirked to himself and switched his empty syringe with the one he had behind his back. "You're just gonna feel a poke," he muttered as he found the vein. Leo sucked in a breath when Donnie put the needle in his arm.
"Are you done?" Leo asked and Donnie smirked before taking out the syringe.
"Yup," he said cheerfully. Leo blinked a couple times, feeling his eyes getting heavy. Mikey watched Leo as he struggled to stay awake, then glanced at the smirking Donnie.
"What-... why am I so tired?" Leo mumbled as he tried to sit up. He struggled and felt his energy disappear, even though he had almost none to begin with. He managed to half sit up and glance at his genius brother through half lidded eyes. "What-... what did you-..."
"Just a mild sedative. You'll thank me later," Donnie grinned and Leo blinked a few more times before falling back down on the cot, fast asleep.
"You killed him!?" Yelled Mikey and Donnie chuckled.
"No. I just put him to sleep for a while. You know just as well as I do he hasn't been sleeping," he told his younger brother who sighed in return.
"Yeah-..."
"Who killed who?" Raph chose that moment to walk into the lab. Donnie pointed at Leo.
"I faked taking his blood so I could inject a mild sedative into him so he would finally get some sleep," explained Donnie with a smirk and Raph barked out a laugh.
"You actually did that? Without Fearless noticing? Jesus remind me not to get on your bad side," he chuckled. Donnie held up the empty syringe and laughed menacingly.
"Trust me Raphael. If I ever wanted to kill any of you, you wouldn't even see it coming," he joked and they all shared a laugh.
"But you aren't serious though right?"
"Mikey!"
"What? Just making sure-..."
