Lindsey felt relieved, when he entered his hotel room. He wasn't sure why, but the show that night left him completely exhausted. He slumped down on the bed and lay on his back, he closed his eyes for a minute. The tour wasn't even halfway done, but a part of him wanted to go home already, which was quite unusual for Lindsey. It had to be Stevie, her showing up out of the blue. They only got to spend two days together, he was probably just missing her.
Getting back up onto his feet, Lindsey undressed and tossed his clothes on the floor. He would never be able to do that at home. He smiled, picturing Stevie already picking his jeans up and complaining. Grabbing a few items, he returned to bed, laying his acoustic beside him, a notepad in his hand.
The words came out easily. Without any distractions, Lindsey had two full verses written in no time. It wasn't going to be a surprise to anyone, when the song would be released, whenever that might be. To this day, Stevie was his greatest inspiration.
Checking the time, Lindsey sighed. He didn't like sharing every single thing on social media like most people, but his team advised him to be more active, fans love it, he was told. So, after every show, he would reply to a couple of messages, like a picture, a video that someone had taken of him. He usually scrolled through the ones, where someone criticized his performance. He hated to think his shows were less than perfect. However, mostly the response was positive.
After he'd done his duty, Lindsey was ready to log off, when a certain headline caught his eye. He frowned and swiped his thumb across the screen to see the full post. In spite of the website being interested in celebrity gossip, he clicked on the article anyway.
"What the hell?" Lindsey spoke out loud even if he was completely alone.
He stared at the phone screen, frowning. A picture of Stevie. With Don. Out in public together, just the two of them. He'd never thought of them as being that close. Sure, they had spend a lot of time in each other's presence years ago, but now?
It's probably nothing, Lindsey told himself in order to calm down. No more than a minute passed, when he held his phone against his ear, waiting for Stevie to answer his call.
"Hey, baby."
"Hi, Linds." Her voice sounded normal, she sounded as if she was glad to hear from him. "I thought, you'd be asleep by now. Didn't you have a show tonight?"
"I did, yeah. I miss you."
"I miss you, too. Maybe I'll come and visit you again some time soon." Lindsey remained quiet. He wasn't sure if he should say something. "Linds, are you still with me?"
"I- uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm here. Sorry. What are you up to?"
"Oh, nothing much. I'm in bed already, reading a book." Stevie replied, making him believe that that was exactly what she was doing.
"Did you go out somewhere today?"
A short pause. "No, why?"
"Just asking." Lindsey clenched his fist. "It's good to hear your voice."
"You sound tired, though. You should get some sleep. Talk to you tomorrow?"
"Sure, I have a day off." He answered and after a rushed, okay, I love you, Stevie hung up.
Maybe he did have a reason to be worried.
