Chapter 5

Maddi and I laugh as we walk through the gates to school on Monday. She was telling about how she slipped and fell at the beach last night after James and I went home and just watched some films together.

"Oh wow," I say, taking deep breaths trying to regain some poise, I could still just invision everything Maddi told me of her falling, she was such a clumsy person, always tripping and falling over everything, the beach is obviously no exception.

"Oh god, I would have just loved to have seen that," we giggled and linked arms walking into the school.

We stopped off at my locker as it was before Maddi's

"English first?" I ask Maddi. "Sadly," she replies.

We were currently working on poetry, one part of school we both very much disliked.

As Maddi goes over to her locker I stop by James's, were he is currently talking to a couple of his friends from baseball.

His friends stop talking as they see me coming over and take in my appearance, James just smirks seeing their reaction.

When I am finally standing next to James he puts his arm over my shoulder and the other two boys snap out of whatever they were thinking about.

"Hey Candice this is Kaleb and Spencer. Kaleb, Spencer, this is Candice and she is taken, so eyes off." I roll my eyes but know that James is not kidding "Can, the boys are throwing and a party at the end of the final game on Friday, you up for it?"

"Well if you win, which I don't doubt you will, it will be an amazing celebration and I wouldn't miss it for the world. If you guys don't win it will just be depressing though." Jack and Spencer look at me unsure how to react to what I just said. "So pretty much what I am trying to say is try even harder to win otherwise you are going to have yourselves a pretty sad party."

I turn yo James "I'll see you at lumch Maddi and I have got english then P.E,"

"Okay see ya," he kisses the top of my head.

"Ugh, are you two done yet." Maddi groans, rolling her eyes.

I turn and give Maddi a look, she just raises her eyebrows at me. "You cant talk, who was it I saw making out with their boyfriend on Thursday befor lunch?"

"Ohhh shut up, we're going to be late to English, now hurry up missy."

I turn back to James "See ya," I smile as I walk off catching up to Maddi.

"I think we should skip the rest of the day," Maddi says, hurriedly approaching me.

This doesnt sound like the Maddi I know.

She links my arm in hers away from where we normally eat lunch, "ummm... why?"

"No particular reason, just not feeling up to it today,"

I turn back towards where we walked from."Well how about we go eat lunch first then reassess this situation"

Madd grabbs my arm lightly and shakes her head.

"No I dont think so,"

"What are you so scared of? Is there a monster in there? Come on Maddi you're never like this. I want to go eat lunch with our friends."

Behind me, Maddi sighs and follows me bac to our usual lunch spot.

"Just be calm okay?"

I have no idea what she is talkig about.

Maddi just shakes and silently follows behind me. As I come to a halt a few steps before my table I take sight of an additional member sitting at our table.

I examine him closely and my breath starts to speed up

I've seen that face before, he looks like...like ... no... it can't be.

My breathing become slow and heavy as I stand confused.

Next thing I know I'm on the bathroom floor, the cold tiles welcoming my tears.

I hear the door open but I don't turn to see who came in, I already know who it was.

"What the fuck just happened?"

"I, I... I don't know" Maddi stutters sliding down beside me "we'll just have to talk to your dad because if that really is Jake then we need to know what your brother has been up to for the last three years.

"Did he say anything to you before?"

Maddi shakes her head "no he didn't see me, I saw him and panicked"

We stayed that way for a minute, backs pressed against the cold wall.

What are we going to do...
