Janice's POV

Nancy looked at me real funny, all the color drained from her face.

She swayed in the booth a little, then caught her heavy head in her hands, elbows propped on the table.

"Are you okay?" I asked, heart racing.

"Janice. Does this look like the face of someone who's okay?" she groaned.

"Message received." I picked at my bacon. "Okay, hang on. Before we totally lose our cool here. Are we completely sure you're pregnant?"

Nancy stared at me with hollow eyes, tears welling up. "It all checks out, I guess." She swiped under her eyes with a white paper napkin. "I haven't had my period in weeks, everything makes me cry, my jugs hurt, I'm nauseous. I am pregnant!"

She buried her face into her palms and sobbed.

I didn't really know what to do, I had never been in this sort of situation before.

The truckers in the diner were starting to stare a little bit.

With a heavy sigh, I laid a handful of crumpled dollar bills on the table and dumped all the change out of my pocket beside them. I stood up and grabbed Nancy by the elbow, dragging her out of the restaurant and to the car.

"Gimme your keys, let's go home." I held my hand out expectantly.

"N-no, your driving scares me." She took a few shaky breaths. "I'll be fine. It's cool, we're cool. Everything's cool."

She unlocked the car and got in. I walked around to the passenger's side and yanked on the door, but it was still locked.

I tugged the handle again, trying to get Nancy to let me in, but she just stared straight ahead out the windshield. Tears dripped onto her shirt.

I tapped on the window, which caused her to jump. She reached across the car and pushed the door open.

"Are you sure you're good to drive?" I asked as I slid into the seat.

"Jan, I would drive while I was actively in cardiac arrest if it meant you wouldn't be the one behind the wheel. No offense." She wiped her eyes.

"None taken...." I trailed. But I was pretty offended. My driving couldn't possibly be that  bad.

We were quiet most of the way home. Then, as we pulled into the driveway, I asked what had been on my mind all morning.

"Who do you think the dad is?"

Nancy let out a big sigh that blew her blonde hair up in the air.

"Keith Moon."

She said it so casually that I laughed.

"No, I'm serious. Who'd you sleep with?"

She put the car in park and stared me straight in the eyes.

"I haven't slept with anyone since Keith. And I didn't do it with anyone else for, like, a year before that. So."

"Jesus, fuck." I swore under my breath.

"What?" She asked defensively.

"Nothing against you, just. You're maybe pregnant with maybe Keith Moon's baby." I unbuckled my seatbelt, but didn't make any move to get up.

"What am I gonna tell my parents?" Her voice was suddenly so small.

I thought for a second before answering.

"Well. You're not going to tell them anything until we know for sure you're pregnant. We'll have to go to the doctor and find out."

"And how are we gonna do that? My parents will be suspicious if I randomly want to see the doctor when I'm not sick. Besides, my mom usually goes with me still."
