While tears were shed and my taxi driver became impatient I said my final goodbyes to Mom.
"Write me often!" She sniffled.
"I promise" Returning those sniffles.
We cried more into each others arms until I finally pulled myself into the taxi. Rolling down the windows my mom gives me her final message goodbye.
"Please, please, Alice be careful of reds."
"Don't worry about me mom, I can handle it...I love you."
She rubbed her eyes with her damp tissue, "I love you more than you'll ever know."
We waved wildly at one another, tears dropping on pavement as my taxi began moving slowly. Before I knew it, I was off on the rode leaving my mom and the life I once knew.
—
"Alrighty, we're here Miss."
A heavy hand hit on the seat next to me waking me while I was still drooling. Rubbing my eyes, I thanked, and payed my driver.
I couldn't believe my eyes. This place was huge. It was beautiful.
The building was light and decorated. Flower pots and bushes flourished around the walls, and its large windows. The entire thing had this aura drawing me too it. I couldn't look away.
I approached the large doors noticing the students walking and mingling around them. Many others seemed to be in the same boat as me too. New, with that deer in the head lights look. I thought i'd feel alone, but i've never felt so welcomed.
"Hello, are you Alice Jerm?"
I hear my name called as i'm approaching the front desk. I quickly turn my head to see a Blue receptionist waiting to greet me.
"Yes! That's me."
"Perfect! Welcome Alice i'll show you around today, and help you find a dorm suited to you! Dorms are co-color, and sharing a dorm with a partner is prohibited."
The lady I thought a receptionist initially, showed me around the wonderful buildings. She made sure I knew where I would need to go for specific classes as well as giving me my key to the dorm of my new home, 342. I held the key tight as she finished up and led me up long shining steps to the dorms.
As I walked to the door she left me to explore on my own. I thanked her for her lengthy explanations to help me understand this new environment. And just like that I was ready to get settled in.
Opening the heavy door I hoped for a blue roommate, and spacious living. Not being exceptionally hopeful for the latter though.
The air of the dorm greeted me with its floral scents. I smiled at the warmth it brought to my heart, standing with eyes closed taking it all in.
"You alright there?"
My eyes snapped open.
I followed the sound of the voice to my right. Feeling a bit embarrassed, a sheepish smile following. Color flickered off the slightly reflective doorway i opened my eyes, and then I knew.
Red. A male Red.
As much as i'd like to say my first thought was: "OMG! A red noooo!" I simply can't, because that'd be a lie. My mother taught me to never lie. My actually initial thought to this boy was: "He's kinda cute."
I push this down and away though, regardless. I can't think that of him, I won't. I register his color, keeping my thoughts organized.
"What we're you doing there, huh?" The red asks me.
I ignore his question,"Excuse me are you my roommate?"
"Well if you have the key to 342 then yes, that would make me your roomie" He gives me this crooked smirk as if he believes he's just the funniest person to walk this earth.
I scoff in disbelief. Not only is he a red he's ridiculously sarcastic.
"I'm sorry, i'm going to have to switch rooms. Nice meeting, I suppose." I say this slightly, and quietly still shocked this could happen to *me*! A put together, tidy blue!
I continue walking back out the door as I hear him try to speak. I continue walking anyway, cutting him off.
There is no way i'm being roomed with a red!
