"Where is it?" Deceit whispered, eyes calm and posture relaxed — a stark difference from earlier.

"Where's what, Dee?" Virgil asked, stepping closer to the other, but his eyes never strayed from Roman.

Don't lie.

"I have it. How do you know about it?" Roman asked, watching Virgil grow even more confused from the corner of his eye.

Deceit closed his eyes, face lax and peaceful. "I... remember something. This feeling. I can feel it near and it's... it's just so relaxing. Like my brain is finally shutting off."

He opened his eyes again and leveled Roman with a blank look. "Can I have it?"

No.

"I don't think that's a good idea."

His eyebrows scrunched together. "Why?"

Why indeed.

"Because it lies, Deceit," Roman started and one look at Virgil's raised eyebrow told him the irony wasn't lost on him. "Okay, haha yeah yeah, but I mean it. It can be helpful in a lot of ways — it helped me get the two of you back inside for one — but it can be... addicting.

"Y-you guys remember how I was in childhood. Awful, mean, selfish, bratty. I was a bully, all because I was told I was allowed to be — that I was meant to be that way."

"I'm going to stop you right the heck here," Virgil butted in, holding a hand up. "What in the world is this thing you two are talking about?"

"Well, simply put it's a really powerful knife I guess?" Roman replied, unable to keep a questioning lilt out of his voice. "It's kind of hard to say exactly what it is since it's all make-believe, ya know?"

"I'm sorry, you have a knife with you??? Right now??????"

"That is beside the point."

"Yeah, I think we've gotten a bit off-topic," Deceit chimed in, sitting back down on Roman's bed. "Please, continue telling me why I shouldn't have the fun sharp object that makes all the bad thoughts go away."

They both leveled him with an unamused stare, causing him to roll his eyes.

"I phrased it that way on purpose, yeesh."

"... Anyway, yes The Dagger can be a useful tool, but it is unwise to depend on it. Deceit, you don't need The Dagger to feel okay, you need help. Thomas needs help. You're so... You're so important to Thomas — to all of us. And we, I more than most, have been awful to you your whole life and you never deserved that. I'm sorry."

Deceit looked Roman up and down before making eye contact with him and giving a small nod in assent.

"I... I don't like it, but you're right. God, I hate it when you're right."

Roman let out a large sigh of relief. "Thank Mary and Joseph, I had no plan other than full-on begging left."

"Oh! Oh, I changed my mind. I refuse to get help, give me The Dagger."

Roman and Virgil set their gazes on him again and he scoffed.

"I kid, I kid. Give a guy a break."

*** IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE ***

okay y'all, hello XD i have a lot to say so listen up!

obviously, this fic is incredibly old. i started writing it at a time where i was very depressed and unhappy (ahaha, vent fic!) and i think that shows XD

the plot? makes like zero sense. my writing? has changed A LOT in the past two plus years since i've started this and overall this is all just a mess.

that being said, i will be finishing this fic! it won't be great - heck, i don't think it's even good - but i know some people like this fic and i hate leaving unfinished projects too long, so i will continue to write this ti the end :)

there will be plot holes, there will be bad writing, there will be mistakes. if any of that bothers you, i have other fics with *better* plots and writing (in my opinion) on AO3that you can check out if you'd like! i will also be posting my fics here soon once i get a break from work.

I will also be posting a note at the end of this fic of the story in bullet point form of what i originally had planned for this fic (which i'm no longer doing XD)

for those of you who read my other fics as well, they will be getting worked on after i finish this up! ^-^

thank you for sticking with me thus far and i apologize for the wait!
