Despite what all the sides believed, Prince wasn't the origin of all of them. Thomas was.

Well, more specifically, they formed naturally. As Thomas' personality formed, so did the sides. They were all part of Thomas' singular personality and everything they were stemmed from an aspect of Thomas himself.

So, even though each side is in a way their own person, they all think and feel things that Thomas has felt.

Honestly, Thomas wasn't sure how to deal with that information.

Sure, he wasn't always in the best mental state, but he never thought of doing anything that Deceit had done... Had he?

"Of course you have."

Thomas and Patton both jumped about a foot in the air, stopping Thomas' pacing and Patton's stress baking temporarily.

"You haven't what?" Paton asked, his head tilting curiously.

Logan, however, was staring intensely at Thomas and didn't say anything.

"I, uh... I was just thinking," Thomas said, turning from Logan to Patton. "I was just thinking that since you guys are a part of me and are compiled from my thoughts and feelings that, uh... you know, I don't remember thinking any of the thoughts that Deceit seems to have been thinking but..."

Patton seemed to understand where Thomas' thoughts were going and quickly chimed in with his opinion.

"Now now kiddo. It's not your fault that all of this happened. You've never had those kinds of thoughts, so of course, you wouldn't expect your sides to be having them."

Logan cleared his throat.

"Well, while you are correct in saying that it isn't Thomas' fault about all of this, you are incorrect in saying that he has never had these kinds of thoughts."

Thomas held his hands up before Logan could continue.

"I'm sorry, but can you explain how you knew what I was thinking before you say any more?"

Logan raised an eyebrow at him.

"What do you mean? You were talking out loud weren't you?"

Patton and Thomas shared a look before Patton said, "I didn't hear him speaking."

Logan's brows furrowed and his eyes glazed over as he got lost in his thoughts.

'Are they playing a trick on me? I don't see why they would be but maybe they are. That must be it,' Thomas heard Logan say... but Logan's mouth wasn't moving.

"We aren't playing a trick on you," Thomas said softly, eyes wide.

Logan's voice left Thomas's head as they made eye contact.

"What did you say?" he asked incredulously.

"We... aren't playing a trick on you."

Thomas watched Logan's gaze turn from disbelief to total shock and he couldn't help but feel the same way.

Yes, they were all connected but they had never... been able to read each other's thoughts?

They were a part of Thomas though! Weren't his thoughts also theirs?

'It is rather odd,'  Logan's voice said in his head. 'I have no idea what's happening here. Perhaps it's because I've been outside of your head for so long and I'm starting to develop my own brain waves?'

'That does not explain why we can hear each other's thoughts!' Thomas exclaimed inwardly.

There was silence for a moment and then Logan thought, 'It could be because I represent your logical thinking. We need to test this... Patton went back into the mind a few hours ago to get Deceit which means that soon, if this theory is correct, something similar should start to happen to you two. We'll have to wait though.'

Thomas nodded and brought himself back to reality to see Patton staring worriedly at them.

"Are you okay kiddos?" he asked.

"We're... fine? I guess? Maybe?" Thomas said hesitantly, giving Logan a questioning look.

"Yes, we are fine. We have an experiment to run, however. Patton, do you mind staying in this physical plane for a few hours and not returning to Thomas's mind?"

Patton, confused more than usual, nodded with a hesitant smile.

"Sure! I have a lot of baking I'm doing right now anyway!"

Logan nodded back.

"Thank you for your compliance, Patton," he said, shifting his glasses.

"Now, back to the original matter at hand," Thomas said, bringing their attention back to him. "Logan, what did you mean when you said that I've had the same thoughts that Deceit is having?"

"Well, put simply, Deceit can be compared to a two-way brain filter of sorts. You only think of him as lying because he acts as a filter for what you put out into the world and essentially stops you from doing anything that will make people hate you and so on. On the flip side, however, he also acts as a filter for how you perceive the world. Things that would cause a great impact on your mental psyche he filters down and helps you to move on entirely or lessen the impact by making you forget or just numbing it down so it's more manageable," Logan uncrossed his arm and leaned back onto the couch. "He represents self-preservation in one of its purest forms."

Patton was simply nodding along absentmindedly, but Thomas felt like his brain was going to explode with this new information.

"So you knew this all along and only just decided to tell me now?" he exclaimed and Logan tilted his head.

"Well, no. I personally only just figured it out when Deceit's problems first became apparent as of this afternoon."

Thomas let out a huff air.

"Okay, that's good to know."

Logan appeared even more confused.

"Why? Did you think I would keep information from you purposely?"

Thomas shook his head.

"I don't know. I guess I was just afraid that you knew what his actual purpose was this whole time and still let us... hate him so much!"

Logan nodded slowly for a minute.

"I understand your concern. However, you can trust me when I say that I will never intentionally hold information from you."

Logan pushed his glasses up his nose.

"It would defeat my whole purpose, after all."
