Luke is now sitting next to Matt, and they are having a boy talk, JJ is laying on the couch, waiting for me.
"Hey, beautiful, what's up?" I kneel down to her.
"Come cuddle." She pleads half asleep. "It's going to be a long night."
"That's for sure..." I sigh and join JJ on the couch.
"What did Em want?" JJ wonders.
"Making sure I understand why I have to stay behind for the moment." I say caressing her cheek.
"Because of your past life, right?" JJ holds me close, burying her head in my neck.
"Yeah..." I whisper while kissing her forehead. "It could put me in danger, but you too, and the kids, and Will, and the team..."
"Wow, okay, don't panic." JJ looks at me with those eyes which are calming me right away. "You'll stay behind, and everything is going to be fine."
"I know, I just really wish there will not be some creepy journalists around this case..." I whisper.
"There is always..." JJ sighs.
We fall asleep quickly after our talk and once we wake up, we go straight to the hotel room to take a shower and change, before heading to the Miami PD's HQ. When we exit the car, there is plenty of journalists in front of the station, Emily asks to walk quickly into it without looking at them, so I do as she says, I put my glasses on and lower my head.
Being the first in the conference room the police let us use, I start looking for details and other signs on the pictures that could help us finding our unsub.
"Hair Clips." I gesture to Matt and Emily who are entering the room now.
"What about them?" Emily asks.
"No, all the victims are wearing them." I shrug.
"They're generic." Matt nods looking at them. "But they're all placed in the same spot right here behind the left ear."
"Oh, that must be what Detective Wallenberg found out from the family interviews." Emily states. "The victims didn't wear these, so the unsub placed them."
"Ritual aspect would keep him at the scene longer, escalate his risk, which he may get off on." Matt comments. "And going with Luke's theory, the woman he pines for may wear something like this."
"Um, they're pretty dated." Emily thinks.
"They're really old, you mean, even at age 5, Mom wouldn't make me wear these." I chuckle. "I'm not sure we should limit it to romance, not actual romance at least."
"Yes, you're right, these feel more like something a mother, or a teacher would wear." Emily agrees.
"It's also strange how private he made it." Matt notices. "I mean, the placement of these clips makes it really difficult to see."
"Everything he does is to be seen." I sigh. "So, why is the unsub hiding this?"
"Well, let's check with the manufacturer of those clips, see where they're sold." Matt suggests. "That could be a good starting point."
"My guess is online and in every drugstore across Miami." Emily counters.
"Well, the good news is, they're only visible in official CSPs." Matt says. "They can't be seen anywhere in media coverage."
"Great." Emily nods. "That'll buy us some time before the public finds out."
"Sorry guys, but I'm not really sure about that..." I show them the TV screen in the room.
"What the..." Emily sighs acknowledging the media already know about it.
"How does Channel 3 know?" Matt frowns.
"Whether they have good intel, or the murderer is one of them." I speak up.
"Let's find out." Emily rolls her eyes. "Tori, try to connect your magical computer thing somewhere and start working with Garcia from here."
"Yes, boss." I sigh and start working.
