David and JJ just arrive after their little trip to Channel 3, I'm still trying to secure our files and data while connecting our computer to the system of the police. I see JJ walking into the conference room, and she seems mad.
"Hey, what's up, love?" I walk to her slowly.
"Nothing." She sighs loudly.
"Surely feels like that." I chuckle a bit, and she glares at me.
"Oh, wow." I raise my hands. "Don't look at me like that."
"I'm sorry, Tori..." She puts her head in her hands. "It's frustrating me how those journalists would do anything for getting the best front news."
"It's their job, some of them are heartless, most of them I admit... but they're never going to change, and we have to live with that." I kneel down and reach for her hands gently. "JJ, look at me."
"Hm.." She lifts her head and looks at me.
"You're stronger, you're a badass FBI agent who is going to break them all and who will find this crazy killer, understand?" I raise my eyebrows waiting for her answer.
"Yes, badass bitch I am." She chuckles and leans in softly capturing my lips in hers. "Thank you, Tori, I needed that."
"Anytime, love." I kiss her quickly before anyone sees us and we head to the kitchen where everyone is drinking coffee.
"Agents." The policewoman enters the room. "We have another murder."
"JJ, Luke, go to the crime scene." Emily sips on her drink. "We need to find him quickly."
After they return from the new crime scene, the team decides it's the good time to deliver the profile. Luke and Emily start briefing the police while I set up everything for the team to do some research. I've printed all of the files multiple times, I've sent them all of the camera footage from the TV channels, I've made sure they will just have to search.
JJ, Matt and David are with me in the conference room, we are calling people, searching for evidence, trying to create links between the murders, but we can't find anything. David and Matt decide to do a little break, while JJ and I keep on searching through media footage.
"Any chance?" She asks me while hugging me from behind, her arms crossed on my chest, her head staying on my shoulder.
"Nope, I can barely focus by now." I sigh and try to relax in her embrace.
"We're going to find something." She kisses my neck softly.
"Yeah, nothing can stop us, right?" I chuckle and she smiles kissing my cheek.
"Nothing." She whispers in my ear making me shiver.
David and Matt bring us coffee and while JJ is taking our two cups, I notice something on a video footage.
"Hey, guys, look at this." I excitedly say. "Ok, so this was taken from just inside Lindsey's garage. What's missing?"
"The cops." Matt realizes. "They're not there yet."
"But they responded within minutes." David states. "So, whoever filmed this had to be there when it happened."
"Well, this was films by a Kal Montgomery at Channel 3." JJ points out.
"I checked their site." I nod. "He's on their I.T staff."
"First Channel 3 breaks the story about the hair clips, and now this." David tries to think.
"Well, if he's not a cameraman or a reporter, he wouldn't show up on our sweep." Matt adds.
"Oh, and I double-checked." JJ speaks up. "His name is on every Neon Terror crime scene Channel 3's put on the news."
"Matt, can you search for him on social media?" I ask while searching for other footages.
"All right, I got him." Matt smiles. "Found him on social media. It looks like he's posted multiple rants about an ex-girlfriend who looks a lot like our victims."
"Sounds like a digital loner to me." David smirks. "Let's go have a chat with Kal."
David and JJ call us and give us a name, well not really a name but still. I'm on my computer with Garcia online, Matt and Emily are in the conference room too. The team wants us to find out who is Quasar22.
"That is an excellent question." Garcia says while typing on her keyboard. "I can tell you with 100% certainty it is not Kal Montgomery. His story completely checks out. Aside from being slightly morally repugnant, he's clean as a whistle. If that whistle was slightly morally repugnant."
"So, that clears him." Matt states. "But why did the unsub target Kal to begin with?"
"Kal's ambitious." Emily says. "He must have known it and used it to his benefit."
"So, he's smart enough not to expose himself, which is probably not easy for someone who's desperate for attention." Matt notices.
"Also, I have to say whoever this is, it's, like, a tech wizard." Garcia sighs. "Because I have used all the tools in my fantastic box, and he's like protected from the mother on high of all encryption packages and a secure server, plus an IP scrambler, which is not like the warm, eggy kind but the computer kind." Penelope goes on for a rent.
"So, you've got nothing on the unsub's ID and location?" Emily asks.
"No..." I can hear the sadness in the technical specialist's voice. "I mean, according to my screens, it's all coming from Jamaica. Kingston, to be exact. It does not take a profiler to know that's completely bogus."
"Well, if he reached out to Channel 3, then he might have to other news outlets, too." Matt intervenes.
"Tori, did he send the videos to anybody else?" Emily asks me.
"Just Kal at Channel 3. That's it." I shake my head negatively.
"If the unsub is focused on them, he must have a personal connection there." Matt realizes.
"Garcia, look into former Channel 3 employees, see if any of them fit the profile." Emily commands.
"Copy, copy." Penelope says. "Vic, can you try with his signal?"
"Sure thing, sweetheart." I nod and she hangs up.
"You know what bothers me about this guy?" Matt sighs.
"Is it the fact that Kal might win a local news Emmy off him?" Emily tries making me laugh.
"Close." Matt nods. "It's that with each crime scene, the window between the murder and the start of filming, it shrinks."
"Right..." I sigh. "And at some point, that's going to converge."
"Ok, we profiled he was going for a bigger bang." Emily sums up. "He's going to make a snuff film."
"I have to track him down quickly. I'll let you guys alone." I take my computer and find an empty room.
