Victoria's POV
We all enter the jet, and everyone takes their usual seat. I look around quickly and spot a free seat behind Emily and Tara. Matt joins me and we chitchat a bit. It's my first day in the team and to say I'm nervous is an understatement. I know how to hide it somehow but after spending twenty-five years on the bad side of the life, I am now helping the BAU with criminals and it is weird.
"The scene has been secured and there's no active shooter on site." Emily announces making us come closer to the team.
"Is there any security camera footage?" Matt wonders.
"That was jammed. No footage." Garcia explains through the phone. "Initial reports say that there are 3 people dead, a security guard, Douglas Bell, and two other employees, Zach Devlin and Rafi Abdella."
"If this is terrorism, somebody should be claiming responsibility." Tara states.
"So far there's radio silence on that." Garcia informs. "But it could take a while especially if it's the work of a lone wolf, right?"
"Don't think it could be terrorism... It's not big enough, or maybe it'll be more in the following hours." I speak up.
"3 victims, 3 different races." Matt continues. "Rafi Abdella was an Indian national, Muslim. He was working in the US on an H1B visa."
"He also had a green card and was considering applying for citizenship." Tara says.
"That could have fueled xenophobic resentment on the part of the unsub. If Abdella was targeted, we could be looking at a hate crime." Reid thinks quickly.
"What are we hearing from the scene?" JJ asks. "Is the body count holding steady?"
"That is a bit of good news." Garcia interrupts. "There were 80 people in the building. There are no other reports of casualties. There were a few minor injuries when they were getting evacuated, but that's it."
"Sounds like an unsub with an agenda other than a high body count." Luke adds.
"And the crime scene photos just came in." Garcia informs us. "I'm sending them. Brace yourselves."
My tablet rings and I take a look at the pictures. I zone out looking at them. Something doesn't add up, but I can't point it right away. I hear the others talking but something keeps on bothering me.
"Vic!" Matt taps my shoulder. "Is this okay with you?"
"What?" I look up quickly.
"We are all going to the crime scene, I am driving you and JJ, is this okay with you?" He repeats.
"Yeah, of course." I smile a bit and focus back.
On our way to the crime scene, I keep on looking through the files, the shooting seems precise, quick and controlled. Too controlled. Almost automatic. I can feel JJ's eyes on me once in a while, but I don't look back at her knowing it will disturb me.
Once we are in the building, I look around while the others interrogate the witnesses. They all seem to accuse one another, they heard and saw different things, they are not reliable, they are confused and shocked.
I hear Emily talk to the Homeland Security guy about how strange Douglas Bell, the security guard, acted. Once she is done talking with Luke, I walk to her.
"What are you thinking about, Tori?" Emily looks at me softly. "You seem a bit off."
"Something doesn't add up, Em." I sigh. "Why would the security guard not fire back?"
