Epilogue 2
-Din and Omera-
"Da! Da! Ba boo Mama Da!"
A smile stretched across Din's face as he felt Cuyan's little hands press insistently against his cheek and forehead, half pulling one of his eyes open. The curly haired little boy had finished bothering his mother for his early breakfast and was ready for Din to wake up too. Winta would be along any minute if he didn't get up soon anyways. It was nearly time for training.
Opening his eyes properly, he pulled his son off of his face and rolled onto his back.
"Good morning to you too, Cuyan."
He set the ten month old on his chest and was rewarded with a wide, sparsely toothed grin.
"Ba, Da Da! Ga moo grrrrr."
He chuckled to himself and folded one arm behind his head as the small child continued babbling. Beside him, Omera laughed softly and snuggled closer into his side.
"It sounds like someone had quite the dream last night."
Din hummed his agreement as he tugged his arm free and wrapped it around her shoulders. Omera kissed the scar that ran along his ribs like she often did since he'd gotten back and reached up to run her fingers through Cuyan's messy hair.
"Sometimes I wish we could stay in bed all day."
Din chuckled at the mild grumpiness in her voice. She had excitedly told him three weeks before that she was pregnant again. Unlike with Cuyan, this was something they had discussed and decided to try for. Omera wanted to give him more children and he was more than happy to welcome as many as she wanted. Besides, he figured it wouldn't hurt if they led by example. They were asking the same of their people after all. As happy as she was, she was tired nearly all the time again.
"Well, there aren't krill ponds waiting for you this time, ner ka'ra. Everything else can wait today. I'll take him along this morning so you can go back to sleep. We'll bring him back before we leave."
He could feel her smile where she'd pressed her face against his side. "You are too good to me, Din. Alright, just this morning. Don't laugh at me, I'll get up tomorrow. I'll have to, you won't be here."
"I know. You're teaching tomorrow morning. Abdominal injuries this week right?"
Before she could reply, their door hissed open and Winta bounded into the room and flopped onto the bed beside them. Cuyan shrieked with glee when his sister greeted him with tickles and kisses to his pudgy cheeks.
"Daaaaad! You're not up yet?"
She tugged her little brother from his lap to cuddle as she gave Din an exasperated look.
"Come on! We only have two hours before everyone will start bothering you."
Mussing her hair—much to her annoyance—he laughed and hauled himself from the bed. She was right, there were far too many things competing for his attention now that he was running a planet. Thankfully, theirs was a people that always put their families first and so never begrudged him for doing the same.
"Alright, alright ner verd'ika. Why don't you take your brother and get something to eat. I'll be down as soon as I'm dressed."
With a bright smile and a kiss for Omera, she took Cuyan from the room. As soon as she was gone, he leapt back into the bed and pulled his wife until she was flush against him. Her laughter was cut off when he covered her mouth with his and kissed her deeply. She wrapped herself around him even as she mumbled about their children and Winta's impatience.
