"Um... Mother Miranda?"

Bela whispered as Miranda walked in front of her.

Right now, they were in a building walking through the halls. Miranda had dressed her up in a modern work suit.

Miranda said she didn't need a skirt to help her so she wore pants. Not that she minded.

"Do not call me that here." Miranda said firmly as she and Bela walked past some people in white lab coats.

Bela slumped her shoulders. She already missed the castle.

After a few more minutes of walking, Miranda stops in front of a door. Bela perks up as Miranda opens this door. It was the first time she did that herself when they first step foot in the building.

The door creaks as it opened wide, allowing Bela to see the occupants.

Inside, there was a tired-looking man and a woman, both in the same white lab coats as Miranda and those other people.

"Who's that?" the man asked straightforwardly as he pointed his finger at Bela. Bela can tell this man is tired for a reason.

She saw Miranda ignore him. Then, Miranda walks away, leaving her there.

Now, Bela stood there, a little nervous now that she was left by the one who led her there.

But right as she was about to excuse herself and follow Miranda, the woman approached her.

"What's your name?" she asked as she stopped an arm's length from Bela. Bela froze at how close she's being. She has never been this close to a human before with no intent to kill or eat her.

She stared at the woman, a little dumbfounded at the moment but decided to calm her nerves once again like she did with Miranda the first time.

"Um... Bela." she answered, holding out her hand hesitantly for a handshake. Luckily for her, the woman complies and reaches for her hand.

"Mia. Mia Winters."

She said as she shook Bela's hand.

"And the man over there," she points to the tired-looking man from earlier, "Is Alan Droney. He and I are scientists in Connections."

Bela nods as she retracts her hand. She felt a little urge to just... Well, kill her. But even the thought seems savage. She shakes her head.

"It's nice to meet you." Bela says smoothly. The woman, Mia, smiles at her.

"Same to you."

"Whatever, Winters, come on. We have work to do." the man cuts in and Bela jumps at his sudden demanding tone.

Mia rolls her eyes but complies either way. She waves at Bela saying 'bye' as she walked with Alan to the same hall Miranda walked to.

Now she really is all alone.

"So, uh, what do we do now?" Bela asked as Miranda flipped through a journal with an Umbrella logo on top of it.

Miranda glanced at her but said nothing.

Bela stays quiet now that she knows Miranda won't answer her again.

Well, she thought she wouldn't talk to her before until she broke the silence.

"So you met with Winters and Droney?"

Bela nods, now no longer unnerved by Miranda's sudden speech.

"Yeah." she replies. Miranda doesn't talk again after that.

She can deal with this for now.

But she's still missing the castle and her sisters and the usual hunt for hopeless maidens.

She sighs as she lays her head on her palm, letting her elbow rest on the desk. If she was back at the castle this action would be disrespectful, but she figured it would be harmless if her mother didn't know.

She closes her eyes and wonders.

What did Miranda do to the flies she lent earlier this year?

She also wondered what she really was called for.

It's useless to wonder now. What's done is done.

She opens one eye and glances at Miranda, still reading her journal of sorts.

She sighs again.

Maybe she'll approach Mia again tomorrow.

But before that, she needs her daily sustenance-

"Here." Miranda says, taking a wine glass from one of her drawers and filling it up with familiar red liquid using some sort of flask.

What the-did she just read my mind?

Bela gladly took it and sniffed it for a bit.

It really was Sanguis Virginis.

Without wasting much time she drinks it all in one gulp. Meanwhile, Miranda watches her while taking out a pen and writing something down in a new notebook she took from another drawer.

Bela didn't ask Miranda where she got it or how she knew what she was thinking. She didn't need to find out yet, after all.

She decides, again, she'll ask Mia tomorrow.
