"Why are you always disappearing?" I ask Wyatt. I am leaning against the train car's wall, my head gently swaying back and forth.
"What do you mean?"
"You had never even met my parents, but you're always helping me try to find out what they're hiding. I've never thought it was weird until now, but you seemed to disappear whenever they were around."
"It's just bad timing."
I look at him skeptically. "Really?"
Wyatt scoots next to me. "I want to help you anyway I can. You're my best friend, I'd do anything for you. Why do you think I'm on this train?"
I smile. How could I have ever thought anything bad about him? He's always been by my side. "I'm sorry," I whisper.
"It's ok," Wyatt smiles. "I understand that you're confused and upset."
"You've always been by my side. What would I do without you?"
"You'd die," Wyatt says smiling. "I know something that'd make me feel better."
"I've told you already, I love our friendship, and I don't want to lose what we have."
"Alright," Wyatt smiles, which fills me with warmth. Then, he kisses me on the cheek, which makes my heart skip a beat. I try to hold down my feelings, but it doesn't work. I hug him and bury my face into his chest while I rake his dark brown hair with my fingers. He smells good. He wraps his arms around me, and I feel as if I never want to move. He cups my chin with his hands and lifts it towards his face. I close my eyes, waiting for a kiss. "Good night," he whispers in my ear. Then, he gets up to lay on his blanket in the opposite corner. I flush in embarrassment, I almost feel like I've been dumped.
