Chapter 20 Under the water
Lucas's POV
The car veers off the road slightly, as I nod off for an instant. We've been driving for more than three days, and we're finally in Forks. I'll be able to see my love in a few short minutes, and that makes all the difference in my attitude. I begin to hum under my breath to the catchy tune coming from the speakers in my car. When I finally make it to the road that the Cullen's live down I smile bigger than I have in my entire life. I'm about to see my Emmett. I'm about to be whole once more.
I turn again, and i'm on ther bumpy grassy driveway. Speeding up slightly, I begin to feel the nerves set in, as I pull into the front yard and look upon my home. The place where I belong now. I should've known that going back to Georgia wouldn't have helped. I'm not from Georgia anymore. The place where I belong is here with the Cullens in Forks. I could never go back to being boring old Lucas Everitt. It's just not who I am anymore.
Turning the car off, i peer up at the windows to the living room, and my stomach knots uncomfortably. What am I going to say to him? What if he doesn't want me anymore? I take a few more steps, before remembering that Chloe is sleeping in the car. Turning back to her, I walk and shake her awake. She groggily looks around, before realizing where we are and jumping to her feet. We walk up the steps to the front door together. She grasps my hand, for support and I knock.
We stand there for a few moments, but nobody comes to the door, so I knock again. After another wait, I twist the doorknob and push the door open to admit me into the completely silent house. If it were under any other circumstances, I wouldn't go into a dark house, not wanting to get into trouble, but there's no telling if Rosalie killed them all, so I take a step into the empty living room. The smell of alcohol fills my nostrils, so I switch the light on, and look around the room curiously.
I see one of Emmett's shirts wrinkled in the middle of the floor, and the couch area is made into a sloppy bed, surrounded by bottles of liquour. I can tell by all the evidence that Emmett has been drinking a lot since i left, so I'm led to believe that he is very upset about me leaving. I stoop to pick up his shirt, and the scent of his body is strong in the air. My eyes begin to water with grief, as I realize just how much I need him. I will never leave him ever again no matter what.
Turning around, when i hear a noise on the stairs, I see Chloe coming down them. She shakes her head sadly, and I begin to cry softly. I've never seen this place so dark, so empty. It's always been so full of life, and so beautiful. Gathering the material of his shirt tightly in my balled up fist, I hurry from the house, and straight back to my car. Slamming my door closed, I begin to dig through the middle console, until I find my old cell phone and dial Alex's number.
It rang a few times, before the sound of her answering the call could be hear through my speaker.
"Hello?" she said with a cautious edge to her voice. She's always so protective of herself.
"Hey it's me. Where are you?" I asked, and she chortled for a second, before answering my question.
"In Port Angeles Washington, you?" she replied, causing a smile to penetrate my sallow glare.
"I'll be there in an hour, where do you want to meet?" I ask, as I turn the key over, and back ut of the drive with Chloe in the passenger seat, and Emmett's shirt in my lap. I'm going to fix this, and then we'll be together.
"How about the movie theatre?" she asks, and I agree. It doesn't really matter where we meet, just as long as we do meet. I need her to do a spell for me and then she can go back to her semi normal life that I keep interrupting her from.
********************************************
Pulling into the slightly crowded parking lot of the movie theatre, I look at my reflection in the rearview mirror, and noticing for the first time that I really need a haircut. I look to Chloe, and she nods encouragingly, as I turn the car off, and we begin to walk from the car up the steps to the entrance of the theatre. I haven't been to a movie, since that day in Seattle. Walking to the booth, I order two tickets to the nine o'clock showing of the movie we agreed upon with Alex.
