Chapter 23 I'll always remember you

Lucas's POV

I veer off into the lane closest to the building, before pulling off the highway altogether. I neatly park my car between two spaces, and numbly climb out of my blue car. Walking up to the main office of the hotel, I pull a one hundred dollar bill out of my pocket, and hand it to the desk clerk, before taking the key from his grasp. Looking down at the key number, I shuffle across the arking lot to the small room, where I'll be staying, until I finish my plan.

Every few steps my mind is filled with the image of my sister. She's somewhere by herself, and in possible danger, but I can't think about any of that right now. I have to do some research first. Emmett told me how the transition works, but I don't know any of the details. I can't just drink the blood, and kill myself because then it might not work. I feel like I'm missing some enormous piece to the puzzle, and without it I can never truly complete my task.

Unlocking the door, I push it open revealing a dingy room with a lumpy looking matress. I know that I could afford more, but I only have around ten thousand dollars, and that will go pretty fast if I don't use it sparingly. I left Chloe with nearly two hundred thousand dollars, so I don't have to really worry about her right now. I force my mind to drop any thoughts of my sister, as I plop down on the surprisingly comfortable bed, and close my eyes gratefully.

The gray is blanketed with a deep purple color, and so are the faces before me. I look around, and see the Cullens. They are standing in a circle around a deep hole in the ground. I take a few steps forward, and peer down the hole. My view is as though I'm far away. Even at this distance, i can see exactly who lies in the wooden box. My skin is pale, and my eyes are closed as if I'm sleeping, but I know that I'm dead. I see the golden blonde color, and realize that Rosalie is standing beside Emmett.

Emmett has his arm wrapped snugly around the small of her back, and his head is bowed sadly. How could he bring her to my funeral? How could he touch her at my grave site? Anger and hurt fill my stomach like boiling hot acid. I find myself standing beside them, and a smirk is planted upon Rosalie's beautiful face. There is sadness in Emmett's eyes, but there is also love. He loves her again. How could he ever love her after all she's done to him?

I watch as one by one the Cullens depart from my grave. Emmett is the first to leave, but Rosalie stays until she is the only one left. She kneels by my freshly buried corpse, and lets out a small wicked laugh. I feel it chill my bones, but I can't move or do anything to avoid hearing her next words. She says them low, but with such feeling that they feel solid, and they are penetrating the essence of my soul. It rattles me more than anything before.

"My blood gave you hope, and my hand gave you death" she murmurs to my corpse, and my blood runs cold. Rosalie had won, and I wasn't about to let that happen. I attempt to reach her, but I begin to fly away. Some unknown force is pulling me away from my grave, and then I'm losing sight of her. The last thing I see before all goes dark is her standing to her feet and walking in the direction that Emmett just walked, then she's gone.

I sit up , and wince as the blood instantly rushes to my head. My neck is cramping from the way that I fell asleep, but that's not why I'm startled. I could've sworn that I heard a knock on the door. I hurriedly bounce to my feet, and slowly stalk to the door. Using the peep hole, I peer outside to see who is knocking at this time. I see the familiar blue eyes, and pull the door open instantly, and pull her into a tight hug, smiling the whole time.

"I got your message, but there's something you should know" she warns, and I move aside for her to come inside, and she walks straight to the sofa, and sinks into the cushion's embrace.
