Chapter 14 Nothing left to lose
Lucas's POV
Looking around at the thousands of dead souls, I feel a little strange, knowing that I'll be leaving here, and nobody else will be ever leaving. Skylar tows me along, but my attention is everywhere. Klaus is standing dazedly in a field of flowers, looking as sweet as could be. I guess Alex was right, spirits really are incapable of contempt. What's wrong with me? I'm filled with anger, and I can't wait to get back to the living, so i can stake Rosalie once again, hopefully this time it'll stick.
Skylar comes to a stop, and I look around. I'm looking at a small gathering of people that I've never seen before. What the hell is going on? I look at the woman directly in front of me, and note that her red curls look like they're actually on fire.
"Luke, I want you to meet some of the people that I've met in here. They all know about Emmett's family" she says excitedly. I look around at them all, and try to see if any of them are from the stories that I've been told.
"These are my friends" she says, before pointing at each person, and saying a name. "This is Bree" she says, pointing to the short girl with wavy brown hair, and a shaky demeanor. "This is Esther, Klaus's mother" she says, pointing to a a middle-aged woman with short blonde hair. "Victoria and James" she says pointing to the redhead, and her mate with blonde hair in a ponytail. "and Irina" she says pointing to the final person in the group. She has board straight blonde hair.
I only recognize two of the people, from what Emmett has told me, and that is victoria and James, the people who tried so hard to kill Bella. I know they're not evil anymore, but that doesn't help me forgive them at all. I look around at them all, and then Skylar signals for me to sit down with them. Am I just supposed to sit here with them, while I wait for the light to appear? I figure, there's nothing else to do, so what will it hurt to listen to their stories? I settle onto the soft velvety ground, and swivel my eyes to look at them.
The stories seem to swim together about Emmett's family because most of them are extremely biased, so I choose not to listen. They may not have contempt, but they do have opinions and they're opinions are really annoying, when you're dating a Cullen. I stir feebly in my comfortable sitting position, before deciding to get up and walk around, and Skylar follows me instantly. I'm really glad to see her again, after our last few weeks together, but how could she befriend such terrible people?
I walk along the endless river of swirling colors, and Skylar follows along behind me. I turn to peer into her innocent blue eyes, and whisper to her, trying not to move my lips too much.
"Everyone of these people tried to have Emmett's family killed? she looks at me with shock frozen on her young face. I'm reminded of a time, when she was just a normal teenage girl, and now she's the spirit of a dead vampire. How things have changed, since last year.
She looks back at the group of vampires still sitting in their little circle, and her eyes widen with fear, and sadness.
"I thought they were my friends" she says, and I feel bad for being the on to destroy her happy illusion.
"They may be your friends, that might still be true, but they aren't going to want to help me, so I have to part with you, but I-I don't want you to be sad" I say with sorrow thick in my voice.
She looks at me with trembling lips, and I wrap an arm around her.
"Where are you going to go? We're dead" she says, but I laugh slightly.
"I'm going to be leaving this world, to resume my life. I came here because of Klaus, but I had a plan, so I wouldn't stay dead." I say, and then a knot forms in my stomach. I just thought of something. It hasn't even been twenty four hours, since Emmett gave me his blood.
