88 Death the Kid's POV 88

I linger around Raina's room after I leave for the second time, trying to process what just happened.

Nobody has ever really taken me seriously when I break down, Dad usually ignores it, and Liz and Patty see it as a nuisance.

But Raina... She understands it. Or at least she tries to. She's completely perfect.

Absolutely amazing in every way. She's kind, quiet, and understanding beyond belief. Not to mention her perfect symmetry, or her crystal blue eyes that sparkle every time she smiles.

But that pain I feel whenever I see her. She's so thin- so pale and fragile, like a light breeze could cause her to crumble. The constant fear of not knowing if she's safe, or if she's hurt herself. Then to see her carried out of the bathroom covered in her own blood...

I've never met anyone as perfect as her, and what I saw her try to do yesterday... The thought of her dead and mangled at the base of the academy makes me sick to my stomach.

I'm a few months clean from cutting, but I've had moments when my wrists burn for the sting of a razor blade. I fight it off the best I can, but I haven't gotten that urge since I've met Raina. She makes me stronger.

How did she end up in a hospital bed with stitches running across her stomach anyway? I know it was internal bleeding, but that doesn't just happen randomly. It needs a cause.

Her meister definitely knows something about it. After Liz, Patty, and I left Raina's room, I stayed behind and was going to talk to her again- hopefully alone.

But as I was heading back to her room, her meister, Jace, stopped me in the hall.

I walked towards the door to Raina's room, just as Jace was leaving. Something told me I should stay away from him and avoid detection, but I ignored it.

As I continued towards him and Raina, he turned towards me with a livid expression on his face, like he was about to kill me. Once he reached me, he shoved me back against the wall roughly and held me there.

"Stay away from her, got it?" He growled, "You can't help her."

I made no motion to get away from him and his threats, and I tried to analyze what he meant.

I can't help her? Is he talking about yesterday and what she tried to do? Was that not the first time she's tried? And why is he being so violent about telling me?

He released his hold and continued walking out the academy doors as I watched him leave.

It's so strange, why would he be so cryptic? Is there something Raina isn't telling me? Does she not trust me enough?

Just review what you know, Kid. Raina tried to kill herself yesterday by jumping off the academy's platform. The next day, she shows up at school and starts vomiting up blood from continuous trauma to her stomach. But how did it happen? She wasn't on a mission the day before, and I would've noticed if she started throwing up everywhere.

Add in her meister acting so strangely... He said I should stay away, and that I can't help her... But what does it mean? What could Raina and her meister be hiding? It's none of my business, but I'm worried about her. If she's hurting, I want to help her in any way I can.
