The story begins with a man who is known throughout the stars, a living legend who's saved countless people and lived many lives, a man who in some places is worshipped as a god, this man is called the Doctor.
Though his power was great, he had never achieved anything through violence, though despite his pacifist nature, he was feared by many races.
He could go anywhere and do anything, nothing held him back, but even in his extravagant life, he had his problems. The main problem was that he was alone. He would often have people travel with him, take them from place to place, show them them sights that they never would've dreamed of seeing, but they always left one way or another. No one stayed, they all were taken, whether it had been by responsibilities, or death itself.
But of course, when your a Timelord, this is never new or surprising news.
It's not like he could just find some other Timelord to travel with, his planet was destroyed in a great war. The Time War. All of his people died, except him. While most people would rejoice at their survival, when a massacre that big happens, you begin to with you were there with them. And that's exactly what he did. He tried to find people that could fill the gaping hole this tragedy left in him. He met and became friends with variety of people, but in the end he would always find himself in the same, lonely state his life had been in so many times before.
It's even worse due to the fact that Timelords lived considerably longer than most beings did. Twelve times more in fact. But while long life has its blessings, it can also be a curse.
On one particularly lonely day, the Doctor was drifting randomly through space, searching for something that could get his mind of his seemingly endless loneliness when he accidentally landed near a occurring supernova. This one was so particularly big that it sent humongous amounts energy and radiation throughout time and space.
With the Doctor being in very close proximity of this supernova, he tried to absorb most of the the radiation and energy, fearing it might rupture something in the space-time continuum. But even his TimeLord body couldn't hold the astronomically high levels of radiation given off. The regeneration process had started to begin in the Doctor's body, but instead of him changing into a completely new version of him, all his 12 forms split.
Each having an individual life for themselves.
In fact, the burst of energy was so big and powerful, all the Doctors regenerations got sent back to their appropriate time periods according to what time the regeneration lived in.
The radiation that he had absorbed was still stuck inside the other forms bodies, and if needed, would heal himself as his regenerations usually did, but it wouldn't change him.
There were two catches. One, he couldn't travel with previous companions. Two, he would still live forever alone. But with great rewards, there comes great prices.
Most of the Doctors were alone. But a couple got lucky.
This is the story of the 10th Doctor, and how he was never alone anymore.
