34: Yingxiong Laozu

A/N: Quick note! Note that I've kept the names and the titles Pinyin. Just like I don't call Hanguang-Jun, Light Bearing Lord, nor do I call MeiRen Sha, Evil Beauty. So from here on, any mention of the Yiling Patriarch will also change to Yiling Laozu. Just realised my silly inconsistency! 🤐🙃

Also, @AninditaDutta4 , here's your Angry Daddy 😂 Credit goes to her for the name!

And @NebulusCharlie jiejie gets the credit for the Yingxiong Laozu and Dimpled Snake. Both were terms I discovered with her so 💐

And "xiexie ni" everyone! For 3.9K reads! And over 400 votes! "Xiexie ni" so much! [Yep, I just invented Pinglish]

Have fun reading! This one's all soft and light joy. Nothing serious whatsoever 😌 [coz even I need a break from all the tension 😁]

Warmth flooded over Wei Wuxian's dozing body, gently waking him up. "Mhm?" Wei Wuxian groaned sleepily as he scrubbed his eyes and sat up. His body tingled all over, the wounds from his days in Luo Qingfei's Wen dungeons sending slight throbs through his nerves. But such minute pain was just too minute for the all-enduring Wei Wuxian. Without even wincing, he sat up. As his hands brushed the familiar plush sheets and pillows, he smiled. Once again, his three favourite fragrances were evident all over the place he was in now.

Soup from the table.

Lotuses from his pillow.

Sandalwood. From all over the room.

"Hm. Back home!" Wei Wuxian wiggled his feet as he sat on the bed, bubbling with joy. "Eh? Lotus root and pork ribs soup?" A wide grin bloomed on Wei Wuxian's face. "Shijie? No," he blushed at his own idiocy, "Lan Zhan." His face lit up as he looked around the room.

"A-Zhan?" No sound. He tried again. "A-Zhan!" And again. "Lan ZHAN!" But Lan Zhan wasn't there. Oh no... the last time this had happened...

He swung his feet over the side of the bed and pushed with his hands to get up, but as he strained to do so, he shouted out in pain.

The doors crashed open and his husband was immediately by his side. "A-Ying!"

"A-Zhan," Wei Ying forgot his pains. "There you are!"

"I'm here, what happened?"

"I thought..." Wei Ying's voice faded into a soft whisper, then trailed off.

Lan Zhan kissed his forehead. "I didn't leave you. I went with Sizhui, Rulan and Jingyi to check on the bunnies. I didn't want to go but they insisted..."

"Hmph! Of course they will. You!" Wei Wuxian pouted and looked away.

"Wei Ying, what is it?"

"You didn't eat and didn't sleep again didn't you?"

Lan Zhan looked down at the ground and slowly shook his head. Wei Ying grabbed his hands in his own and kissed them gently. "A-Zhan, why?"

"How can I? When Wei Ying's not even conscious... I was afraid."

"Afraid?"

"Afraid you'll let go again. Back during the fight at Nevernight when Wang Xinyi shot you, and now, when you didn't wake up. I thought it'd be like back in Nevernight long ago..."

"Lan Zhan... I won't. Never again."

"Promise?" Lan Zhan looked up at him, yellow topaz eyes brimming with hope, love and tears.
