"Dear Diary,
Today was the day we had entered the maze for the first time since arriving to the Glade. There was only four of us, not including Gally who still kept to himself as he continues to settle. So myself and Minho had volunteered to stand at the edge of the walls in case of an emergency. We've spent the previous days working out the times of when the walls opened and closed. They opened at the first break of daylight, then closed as the sun began to set.
When myself and Minho were waiting for Alby and Newt to return, we had heard strange noises, they were like animal calls only worse, there was snarling and metallic clashes.
The two had made it just in time for the walls to begin closing.
It was only an hour ago that we had discussed what Alby and Newt had seen. They said there were loads of confusing passageways, each one deeming to be quite narrow according to Newt. That's when we had declared the place outside of these walls; the maze. Tomorrow it was Minho and I's turn to venture out into the maze, I tried to say that I didn't want to but even I was curious, I still am.
Yet my mind still wanted to know; what were those animal calls? What made them?"

Waiting isn't one of my strongest points, and patience isn't a word in my vocabulary so when I was waiting at the walls for the Runners to come back, I was severely bored and grumpy. My legs can only hold so much weight for so long even if that weight was just myself, how I manage to lift trays full of meat and other foods is beyond my knowledge.
It was nearly time for the walls to close so they should be coming in at any moment now, at least that's what Gally had told me.
It was then that I heard shouts, coming from all directions, making me stand up straight as I waited for the Runners to come around the corner. The shouts made me feel uneasy, an unwanted feeling of terror coming over me as my heart began to speed up when I saw Minho, his face red as he ran passed the walls, the rest of the Runners following him. I let out a breath, relief washing over me.
"Rose!" Shouted one of the Runners. My gaze landed upon a boy running towards me, he was the last of the Runners. "You probably won't remember me, right?" He asked, coming to a stop.
Unanticipatedly, there was an arm thrown around my shoulders, my entire body freezing for a second before looking up and seeing Minho glancing back down at me with a smile. "This here is Ben," he said, nodding to the other boy.
I looked at him and smiled slightly, waving before saying, "I developed a formula for memory loss, I guess I should've written it down."
I heard Minho sigh and shake his head, looking down before looking at me. "That was horrible Rose," he told me, his face showing both disappointment and amusement.
"Oh come on, that was funny, right?" I asked, turning to Ben who laughed in return, shaking his head.
"You sure haven't changed, Rose," he said, ruffling my hair before running off to the homestead.
"For better or for worse," joked Minho, who dodged the punch I aimed at his shoulder, a toothy grin on his face. He chuckled in reply and nodded his head for me to follow him, turning around. "C'mon, I need to eat."
We walked to the the homestead, nodding to the other Gladers as I patiently waited for Minho to gather his food.
"I put effort into this," I told him as we sat down.
"I thought you do every time?" he replied with a raised eyebrow; picking at his beef before taking a large bite out of it. "If you didn't then you did a pretty good job even without trying."
I smiled to myself, looking down at my hands; a light blush playing at my cheeks. "Well, as much as I appreciate the compliment, I'd appreciate it even more if you said it without Beef filling your gob."
Of course, there's no way of saying that to a boy without them purposely showing you the food in their mouths.
"Oh, I'm sorry is this gross?" He asked, sarcasm rolling off of his tongue. He then swallowed what was in his mouth and just stared at my unamused expression for a second.
As much as I tried, I couldn't help but smile when he burst into laughter, finding himself hilarious, just like always.
"You are a terrible person," I said, pulling my lips into a straight line to stop myself from grinning.
"I know, it keeps me up at night," he replied faster than expected, making it really difficult to keep a straight face.
Silence crept in as we both quite literally stared at each other to see who would cave first.
Each of us were way too competitive to give up, so we didn't. Instead we found ourselves creating ways to sabotage the other. My first attempt was to wiggle my eyebrows, seeing Minho eyes almost twinkle with amusement.
He then flared his nostrils at me repeatedly, causing me to become flustered from forcing back even a smile.
"Are you two okay?" Newt asked, appearing beside me, curiosity etched in his words.
"Not now Newtina," I mumble, holding my hand up without looking away.
"I'm not even kidding, you're bloody scaring me," he replied, walking to stand next to Minho. "You two are normally smiling around each other 90% of the time, what is going on?"
That comment caused both me and Minho to simultaneously smile, declaring neither of us a winner.
"Hey, at least we didn't lose," Minho pointed out, holding his hand up.
"Well you're definitely a cup-half-empty kind of guy aren't you."
