"Rhea we have to go, baby," Lexa called out as she finished packing her little girls breakfast to go
The Woods had unfortunately overslept that morning due to Lexa forgetting to set an alarm the night before and now they were running late. Rhea was not a morning persona as it was. Especially on mornings like this where Lexa needed to be in at 5:30 am for surgery. She had already called ahead to tell them to push it an hour.
Lexa sighed when she didn't hear a response. She walked towards her room and saw Rhea on the ground with tears running down her face. Lexa crouched down and looked over her daughter with concern.
"What's wrong? Are you hurt?" She asked softly
Rhea looked down at her untied shoes and her bottom lip trembled "It too hard momma." She says pointing to the laces
Lexa gave her a sympathetic look. They hadn't really gone over tying shoes yet, mainly because Rhea always liked to wear her light-up velcro ones. Maybe she preferred them because she didn't have to tie them she thought.
Lexa wiped her daughters tears and kissed her cheek. She sat down on the ground and pulled Rhea between her legs. She was already late, what was a few more minutes at this point. So there she sat with her daughter's hands in her own and they went through the motions of tying two bunny loops together.
Lexa said encouraging words when Rhea struggled and she praised her baby girl when she did each step right. After about twenty minutes, Rhea was able to tie her shoe for the first time alone. It wasn't the prettiest tie but it would do and Lexa couldn't be more proud. She promised Rhea they'd celebrate after work as she carried her towards the car to buckle her into her car seat.
"You're late," Anya says as Lexa walked into the hospital while holding Rhea's hand
"I know." Lexa huffed out
"Auntie ahn look!" Rhea said pointing to her shoes
Anya looked down at the sloppy tied shoes and looked back at Rhea's beaming face.
"Did you tie them yourself kiddo?" She asked
Rhea nodded proudly. Lexa ruffled her daughter's hair.
"Well, I think that deserves a celebration," Anya says as she scoops Rhea up over her shoulder
Rhea laughed and kicked her little feet
"Let's go raid the vending machine squirt," Anya says
"Bye baby I'll see you for lunch," Lexa called out
"I love you, momma," Rhea called back
"I love you too Rhea," Lexa said with a warm smile
She stood and watched her daughter and sister leave. She loved Rhea with all her heart. She was getting so big. It felt like just yesterday she was holding her newborn baby girl. She remembered spending countless hours just watching her little chest rise and fall. She hardly got any sleep the first few months. She shook herself from her thoughts and headed in the direction she was needed in. Lexa took a look at the surgery board and then grabbed her patient charts. Clarke approached her with two cups of coffee in hand.
"I saw your name on the board. You're here early...I wasn't sure how you take your coffee." She said as she offered one cup out
Lexa gave a faint smile and took the cup in hand
"I'm actually quite late... Klark is this supposed to be some kind of apology for running and leaving me half naked yesterday?" The older woman asked quietly so nobody could overhear them
