WREN
"You wanna go out?" He whispered into my ear and leant down to peck my lips.
I jumped up instantly like a five-year-old of Christmas and picked up his helmet as he grabbed the spare which was slightly small and less heavy.
"Yeah, no." He muttered and swapped so I had the smaller one.
We wandered down to the parking garage of his apartment building and I saw the black and silver bike. He got on and signalled for me to get on behind him.
"Hold on tight." He snickered and sped off as I squealed and giggled, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist.
We sped around the city and eventually a bit further towards the skirts and he pulled over on a rough-looking corner that kind of made me uncomfortable.
"Little pit stop." He smiled at me and lifted me off the bike.
"Bellamy, I-" My words were muffled by him pulling a full-face ski mask over my face.
He's lucky I don't wear much makeup or he would be dead right now.
I looked down through the holes around my eyes and I realised it was purple, at least it was cute but what the fuck were we doing-
He opened the compartment under the seat of the bike and handed me a shotgun.
Oh my fucking god I'm holding a shotgun-
"Bellamy, what the fuck?" Before I could say anything else he flicked the safety switch on and grabbed another for himself. So it was just to scare people then?
He pulled me into the convenience store and the adrenaline took over.
"Put your fucking hands up." He shouted in a deep voice and I pointed the gun forward and scoped out the store.
I heard the guy open the register and Bellamy shout at him and I circled back to the door where Bellamy pulled me out and we drove off on the bike.
We both started laughing as hard as we could and I rested my head on his back trying to comprehend the fact I just helped rob a convenience store.
He didn't stop or pull over until we got on a quiet road outside town, he pulled into a truck stop and took me by the hand.
He dragged me into a nearby field, both of us still laughing and smiling as we ran.
Eventually, I tripped and fell toward him, pulling him down with me and we collapsed next to each other. He pulled money from the bag and threw it up into the air like confetti.
"This is what you meant by going out?" I giggled and picked up all the money scattered around us and fanned myself with it.
"No babe, this is paying for us to go out." He said straight-faced before breaking into a grin and laughing some more.
I kissed his cheek and after hours of laying there laughing in each others company we got back on the bike and sped off away from town.
-----
"Bellamy, wake up." I whispered as he tossed and turned more than usual, he whispered about his father, even though I heard them as whispers I knew to him they were screams.
He finally awoke and groaned loudly in frustration, wiping the beads of sweat away from his forehead and turning to face me.
"Wren..." He whispered as if he didn't realise I had been there the entire time.
"You don't know what he's like, Wren." He uttered and sunk back into the bed with me tucked under his arm.
"Who, Bell?" I whispered to him but he continued to stare at the ceiling.
"My dad." He had never said a word about his dad, any of his family for that matter and I had never bothered to ask but then again he had never asked about my dad either.
I refused to say another word, we just lay there for the next few minutes so one of us would fall back asleep and we wouldn't have to talk about the sensitive subject anymore.
I hadn't seen my dad since I was just a child, I didn't even know if he was still around but my sister had to be living somewhere... We had no other cousins, uncles, aunts or even grandparents so she would either be with a foster family or with our father.
I wanted to see him again. I don't remember what he was like back then, only small details, useless details like when he used to buy us cakes from the bakery after kindergarten and let us stay up to watch movies late when mum wasn't at home...
-----
I couldn't stop thinking about my dad, I had made an effort not to up until now but with all the thoughts came curiosity about him and who he was now.
As Bellamy left for his run I reached for a phone book I knew would be dumped somewhere around the apartment and like planned I found it in a draw filled with pamphlets and miscellaneous other brochures.
I flicked through the thick book, A, B, C... Collins.
Ben Collins, no.
Heather Collins, no.
Joseph Collins... my dad.
I looked below the name for an address.
13 Sutton St, North Melbourne 3051
It was only a couple of blocks away... I'd been living that close to my dad this entire time and never seen him.
I packed a small duffle I found in Bellamy's wardrobe. I don't know why I didn't wait for him to get home but I couldn't wait, I need to go now, to find him.
As flung the door open to leave he stood in my path, blocking the door.
He smiled at me cheerfully before looking down at the duffle bag letting his expression fade.
"You're leaving?" He asked, storming into the apartment and pushing past me.
"No..." He turned quickly, clearly he didn't believe that answer.
"I just-" I stammered, unable to bring myself to finish the sentence.
"You just what, Wren?" He shouted, getting closer to me as I backed into the door.
"I want to find my dad, my sister..." I said hesitantly and he backed off slightly, realising the reality of the situation.
"You should go then." He muttered and stormed off to his room. If he wanted me to go, I would.
