This short story was written for Round 3 of the Wattpad Fantasy Smackdown commencing on 12 January 2013.
With a theme of a Dying Earth, the prompts for this are both pictures and songs.
I chose the following pictures:
Picture #1: Rocks or ice with a rift
Picture #4: A boy floating on an upturned umbrella, towing bottles and watching fire on the horizon
Picture #5: A sparkling spirit woman, silhouetted against the ocean and the stars
Picture #8: A huge moon rising over a mountainous walled stronghold, with a winged dragon in the foreground
We were given eight songs to choose from. Being indecisive and liking the lot, I chose to use all eight. The chapter they match appears in the media beside each chapter, for ease of identification.
I even added an extra two, so the other chapters wouldn't feel too quiet.
The pictures are also in the media alongside chapters, along with a few additional ones to better illustrate the story.
