Metroid: Before

Flaaghra

The tunnel widened in height until eventually opening up into a massive cavern full of what appeared to be artificial trees. The thin yet strong barks rose high up into the darkness. Samus moved cautiously through the dense forest ,using her thermal visor to navigate. The atmosphere was eerie and the complete absence of any real life was foreboding. The thermal visor was detecting the heat given off by the trees yet it showed no signs of any other life forms. The forest was dead silent and she felt her heart pounding in her chest. Even with her amour she felt no sense of safety or protection.

She reached a clearing and found herself in a round open area. There was a giant flower bud in the center and four disc shaped devices mounted on poles, surrounding the bud. She aimed her cannon upwards as Trace left from a tree and dive rolled along the ground until he reached the bud. He climbed up on top and they stared at each other. His red slender body glowed crimson in the almost total darkness . Before Samus could react, Trace turned and shot the edges of each of the dishes, one by one they raised upward and artificial beacons rushed out and surrounded the bud in cylindrical formation. Trace leapt backwards as the light concentrated on the bud.

Samus watched as the bud shook and unfolded, revealing the monstrosity inside. A creature rose straight upwards, its body, a dark green colour and covered in leaves. The plant monster continued rising until it was about as tall as a tree. The top of it sprouted leaf like arms that transitioned into curved blades at the lower portions. It's head was a mass of tangled vines and plants ,with two giant red bushes where its eyes would be. The beacons formed a barrier around the monster and provided it with the only source of light available down here. Samus guessed that the kriken must have created it with the beacons as a bioweapon of sorts.

"Morphology: Flaaghra , mutated plant specimen created by the kriken empire as a means of preventing any trespassers from travelling any further. The four panels that provide light to the specimen also provide protection. They must be destroyed before Flaaghra can be attacked."

The monster let out a rattling screech and swung its left blade at samus . She jumped over it but was tripped by the passing edge as she landed . She boosted away as the other blade came straight down to where she was standing. She spun around and shot a super missile at the nearest dish to her right. The dish was destroyed and Flaaghra attempted to flatten her as it threw itself onto the ground. She leapt onto it's head and into the air as it rose back up, backflipping and twisting in the air,shooting 3 super missiles at the remaining dishes . They each exploded and samus landed straight down, wasting no time as she switched to the plasma beam!

The arm cannon charged up and unleashed a flaming barrage upon the plant. The bud exploded into flame as fire raced up Flaaghra's body, engulfing the whole thing instantly. It screeched in agony and the behemoth fell onto its side, being thrown into the air by the impact as it disintegrated into ash. As the smoke cleared, some of the ground underneath the bud began to crumble and Trace dove into the newly formed hole in an attempt to escape. Samus somersaulted into the hole after him. It was just the two of them now, without any sign of backup she knew it was up to her alone to deal with him and locate Spire before it was too late.
