Tw: mentions of violence, slight anxiety, mentions of death
Karli let me come with her. Now I'm sitting on the ground in the corner of some building with people running all around me. I'm sitting in the corner because nobody seems to trust me and seeing as I was locked away at Hydra for most of my life, I'm not exactly confident in my social skills. Plus, James isn't here. I know I left him, but it's still weird. The first thing I did once I had escaped was go find James. I basically haven't left his side until now. I think I'm doing the right thing though. Just because I was lucky enough not to be in their situation doesn't mean I shouldn't help them... Huh. That's the first time I've ever even considered myself lucky.
A girl, younger than me, with bouncy blonde hair and an unsure smile comes up to me. "Hi."
That's all she says before sitting next to me. She pulls a candy out of her pocket and opens it, popping it into her mouth.
"Umm... hi..." I say, confused as ever. She doesn't say anything, she just keeps eating her candy.
I look back forward. I can hear the girl sucking on whatever candy it is that she put into her mouth. "Did you really kill all those people?"
I turn towards her really fast. How does she even know about that? She's like ten or something! I didn't even know that people were murdered back when I was ten. Well not when I first turned ten. By the time I was turning eleven I was the one murdering people but that's not the point! This girl is so young. Why did she just come up to me and ask if I killed a bunch of people?
She notices me staring at her. "Sorry. Karli was talking about you and I overheard... So... Did you kill all those people?"
Karli is telling everyone who I am. I should've known. That's why nobody is talking to me. I got to get out of here. Suddenly I feel like I can't breathe in this place. I stand up and walk towards the nearest door, leaving the little girl where she is. I'm almost to the door when I hear Karli call my name.
"Y/n are you okay?" I whip around and stare at her. I can't breathe here. I need James. I feel a tear slip down my face, before quickly swiping it away.
"I can't do this Karli. Everyone thinks I'm insane." Karli comes closer.
"Nobody thinks you're insane y/n. We think that you're powerful. A good asset to the team is what we were actually thinking." Karli gives me a small smile. "You've been through more than any of us. You'll be useful to our movement." Useful. I'm useful?
"You guys want me here?" I'm not sure I believe her. "But what if I can't help you?"
"Just being here is helping us, y/n. You haven't even done anything yet but you're already helping inspire new ideas on how to win this." I raise an eyebrow at her.
"How am I inspiring you?" Karli comes right up to me and pushes some hair out of my face.
"Y/n. You were strong enough to escape frickin Hydra. You didn't believe in what they were fighting for, so you left. That's... that's inspiring." She smiles at me.
"So you guys trust me?" Karli smiles and nods her head before turning on her heels and walking away.
I go outside to the courtyard-like area and find a place to sit down. I take a deep breath. They want me here. They think I'm useful and inspiring. I smile to myself. I've become so accustomed to being called useless for showing the slightest sign of weakness that this is a nice change of pace.
