All I ever wanted was to find my soulmate. From childhood, I quickly wondered who my soulmate would be. Would they also love reading? The smell of coffee? Would they wear mismatched socks as I did?
The only problem was, I wouldn't know until it was their last words. Which scared the hell out of me, as did most people.
I hoped that I'd be one of the lucky ones, the ones who just happened to find their soulmate. An exaggerated guess, you could say. So, I was never one to date much, until I met her.
She was the love of my life, from her beautiful curled hair to her soft skin that smelled like sunshine. I loved her more than anything. But, I always wondered, is she my soulmate? However, I chose her, hoping that eventually when we were old and gray I'd know if we were.
"Matthew, honey, can you come to help me with the groceries?" She called out from the driveway.
"Yes, my love," I smiled running out to her.
We had gotten married after 4 years, which was risky. Marriage is not always a safe option, especially when you fear not finding your person. But, She wasn't afraid of not finding the one. She just wanted to be loved. And, I always admired that, even if doubt still lingered in my mind.
We stood unloading the groceries in the kitchen, sharing how our days went at work. That's when she gave me the news. Three words completely changed my outlook on life.
"Honey, I'm pregnant," Her eyes stuck at my feet.
"Hmm?" I furrowed my brow, thinking I heard her wrong.
"I'm pregnant. 10 weeks along..." She smiled softly.
I walked over to her and spun my wife around. Softly placing my hand on the nonexistent bump where our child would grow. She giggled, which made my heart melt. The doubt left my mind at that moment, for the first time, I found peace.
So what if she wasn't my soulmate? We were happy. We were growing a family. My soulmate had to be her, my words had to be when one of us died old, right?

The next day, I traveled to set. My smile must have been different because my assistant, Y/N noticed. She was absolutely one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She was like me, wanting to wait to find the person that seemed the most likely to be your soulmate. So, she dated here and there, but never anything super serious.
"You look extra happy today, Matthew," She smirked.
"Do I?" I questioned. She smiled, handing me my coffee.
"How's the wife doing?" She asked, picking up papers around my trailer.
"You absolutely can't tell anyone but, she's pregnant!" I blushed.
She squealed and gave me a huge hug.
"Congrats, Matthew!"
Then, her face dropped. She brushed her arm softly and took in a deep breath.
"Not to kill the mood but, I got a new job," She frowned.
"Really?" I pouted, "Where?"
"New York, I'll be working on a new show," She smiled softly, "But, I'll miss my favorite actor."
I tried to give her a hug and she stopped me, saying wait till later, so it wasn't an early goodbye.
Something about Y/N always kept me curious, from the e/c orbs that always sparkled to her laugh that I swear could save the world. She was a very special woman, all right. I wished she would meet the one and be truly happy. She deserved it.

After filming, I found Y/N packing her things. Her hair was tied into a messy bun and her eyes were puffier than usual. I knocked on her door quietly, trying my best not to disturb her.
Hey there, Goob," Her eyes went back to that sparkle I knew, and the sniffs slowly disappeared.
"Hey Y/N," I replied, "Can I walk you out?"
"Sure, I'd appreciate that," She blushed, picking up her box.
We walked out of our filming zone and she placed her boxes in her car.
"Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone, okay?" She chuckled, patting me on the shoulder.
"No promises," I replied, giving her a wink and waving as she pulled away.
That's when it hit me. Those words, those eight words sounded all too familiar. I rolled up the sleeve of my sweater and saw them engraved on my forearm. Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone, okay?
