They had been sleeping in the same bed for a while now.
Even though it wasn't an "official" thing. Both kept their apartments, still living apart. But, for Spencer, Y/N's bed had become a safe place. After long cases, he'd stay with her. They'd doze off and stay in their comfortable embrace until morning.
And then, one cold morning, Y/N woke up, and Spencer's soft golden-brown-colored curls weren't beside her. That's when she realized just how used to waking up beside him she had gotten. The spot where he used to lay, empty. A constant reminder that he had left.
She sat up, rubbing her eyes. Her clock glowed, 8:30, in bright green numbers. She tossed her sheets to the side, stood up, and walked past her closet. Y/N stepped into her kitchen, calmly grabbing a coffee mug Spencer had left from some hole-in-the-wall store he had visited and poured in coffee.
She sat on her couch, picking up her phone in the hand that was free, to 9 messages from the team:
Garcia: "Hey sugarplum! I just wanted to check in on you, I know today's a hard one & wanted you to know I'm always here for you!!"
"I also left a care package outside your door. <3"
Hotch: "Hello Y/N, hope you are okay. Please do not come into the office for a few days, you need to take some time."
Emily: "Sergio & I are always here for you!!"
"Even though you're "allergic"
JJ: *1 attachment* "Henry made you a sweet card! Please call if I could help in any way."
"P.S. Sending lots of love you're way"
Morgan: "Hey baby girl, I wish this was all just a silly, goofy joke. XX"
Rossi: "Hey kiddo, here's your favorite pasta recipe to help you feel a little better."
She shut her phone back off, after replying to the messages. No one ever told her just how weird it is to wake up alone, without the smell or sounds of the person, she would grow accustomed to.
Eventually, you had to get ready. You put on a midnight dress and paired it with some black converse, tying them the way Spencer had taught you. You concealed the red puffiness under your eyes and tried to relive the time when Spencer would sit on your bed, reading quietly to you whilst you got ready.
The sky was dark that day and every day after. Almost as if the world was mourning too. That's when the woman walked up to the casket, immediately she began to sob. It was unreal. This wasn't happening, was it? Nothing was real.
The team stood behind her, softly taking turns patting your back or trying to comfort you in their own little ways. Which, made her mad. Knowing that if they hadn't split up, her love would have woken up beside her this morning. He would have poured her coffee. Read to her while she got ready.
Not only did she lose Spencer that day, but she also lost herself too.
In life, you often question why people become monsters. But, now Y/N understood. That day, she became a monster too.
