Cry
One way to say how I felt: I had just got hit by a truck. A truck called anger and the driver named Felix.
Groaning in pain, I checked on where I hurt. Eyes swollen shut, body bruised, cuts lining my face and hands, and my legs broken in some place, as well as my ribs. Yep, everything hurt. I sighed, shakily taking off the mask, but immediately regretting it as white light flooded my vision. "Ry-Ryan?!"
I moved my head to the side, squinting as a small figure pounced on me. "I w-was so w-worried! You w-wouldn't wake u-up at a-all!" the boy said in between quiet sobs. "Nathan...!" One person came into mind as I was hugged by my little brother. "Where's mom? Is she okay?! Did you leave her alone?!?"
Sobs erupted from Nathan as he glanced at me, face distorted with sadness and confusion. "Sh-she's at the d-daycare," the brunette replied, obviously confused. Relief flooded me as about a million other questions popped into my head.
"Nate, how long was I out for?" "I-I th-think- maybe- a d-day and a-a h-half?" I groaned, the simple thought of, "Felix is going to kill me,' made me shudder. No doubt, the boy would make me regret lying in the hospital for long. Nathan wiped his tears away, making that weird sound people make when they're trying to swallow their sobs.
"It's o-okay, Ryan, I got your w-work that y-you've missed." I grinned, hugging him in an attempt to calm the boy down. "Thanks, bro." A sudden question popped into my mind as I ruffled Nathan's hair. "Nate, how did you get here?" Instead of answering me immediately, he stayed silent, muttering in the smallest voice possible, "I took a bus." "NATHAN!!!"
A nurse sauntered in before I could lecture my idiot brother properly, the woman smiling oddly as I put on my mask sloppily.
"Well, Mr. Terry, it's been about 38 hours that you've been unconscious. Your body seems to have two broken ribs, and a small break in your jawline. We preformed surgery, but there were a few...complications."
Complications?!
"In order to 'keep living', we will have to preform a monthly surgery to plaster a wax mold onto your broken bones- we suggest not taking any more beatings. Along with the checkups, you will need to take a medicine the hospital has developed to quicken the healing of your ribs inside the mold. There are side-effects, but nothing too bad."
She proceeded to give me the standard medicine bottle, with a single strip of label. "Take two pills every 5 hours. For refills, ask your local doctor." Suspicious, much? "You need to take the pills in about 2 hours, Mr. Terry. Remember not to take these pills on an empty stomach, as side effects will progressively get worse. Until then, we will check on you and your vitals. " And with that, the black-haired nurse left.
Time passed with a check-up every 5 minutes. Nathan stayed by my side, even when they cleaned the surgical wound. As the food to take the pill was delivered, Nathan had left to go to the restroom, a familiar voice caught my attention. "Hey Cry."
My eyes glanced to the gang of people. "Hey guys, how you been?" "Could be better," Minx replied, giving a small smile. "Yeah, we really miss you over at Lajes!" Red supplied, earning a nod from Russ. "Sorry Snake couldn't come- ya know how he is." I really didn't, but nodded anyways. "Did you guys have any tournaments without me?" I joked, earning few laughs and teases. "Only one, and that's because I was broke," Red laughed, earning a small kiss from her boyfriend.
A tad bit of envy welled up within me as the feeling of loneliness surrounded me. That soon went away as Nathan came outside, immediately giving me a confused glance. "Guys, this is my little brother, Nathan. Nate, these are my friends: Minx, Jund, Red, and Russ." My brother gave a small wave, and they greeted him rather excitedly.
