Aleyuh Carrera

"Yeah, they're a bunch of fancy people. They've had three governors in the family." Kie began talking about the Limbreys. "They've run Charleston for, like, three hundred years."

"These Kooks make our Kooks look like Pogues." JJ commented as we past the big beautiful homes.

"Holy shit, they do." I agreed, as Pope stopped the car in front of the address Limbrey wrote in the letter.

"You sure this is the place, Pope?" JJ questioned, looking at the estate.

"Pretty sure." Pope deadpanned.

"All right." JJ shrugged, opening the door so we could get out. "Fat City, for sure." The three of us looked at the tall, black gates in front of us with spikes.

"Jesus, what the fuck?" I whispered.

"Talk about home security." JJ commented sarcastically. "Are those spikes to keep people out?"

"No." I shook my head in shock.

"The slave quarters are over there." Pope pointed towards it with a sigh. "These spikes were to keep people in." We walk towards the front door. Pope uses the door knocker, causing it to echo through the home. "Think that was too much?"

"It echoed the entire house. Thats for sure." JJ answered.

"They definitely heard it, unless they're deaf." I shrugged.

"Maybe nobody's home." Kie guessed. Pope knocked on the door once more, but then the door opened revealing a man.

"You must be Pope." The man pointed to Pope with a smirk.

"Um...Are you Mr. Limbrey?" Pope questioned nervously.

"Ms. Limbrey was expecting you yesterday." The man corrected.

"Oh, I'm...I'm sorry. My car broke down on the way up here." Pope explained.

"Carburetor blew up in the middle of Nowheresville." JJ added, causing the man to look at him. "Sorry about that."

"Yeah, she was, uh, real upset when you didn't show up." The man forced a smile at Pope.

"We tried to call, but there's no number on the invitation." Kie shrugged.
