EVIE WAS QUITE surprised, she had a vision in her mind of what the school she was being sentenced to would be like and expected a lot worse when she arrived yesterday at the school that housed the worst of the worst delinquents in the state. There was relatively a lot less violence than she thought there'd be. There weren't any guards chasing runaway delinquents, well, most of the time, her mind drifted to this morning with Matt, chuckling a little in her mind and students weren't being caught every second for smuggling drugs which was a plus in her mind.
She, Scar, her new friends, and Xander, who she wasn't sure of what to qualify as judging from how he barely acknowledged her existence, were on their way to the cafeteria for some food after countless long strenuous classes and needed food to replenish their aching minds and energies.
They all bee-lined it to get their lunch before making their way to their table in the middle of all the chaos, Evie followed suit and sat down beside Scar in the middle of her and Owen with Xander right in front of her who simply raised his eyebrow at her movement but thankfully didn't say anything much to Scar's relief as she wanted them to get along knowing about Xander's cold and nonchalant attitude which could easily tick someone off though she knew Evie wasn't one to get angry easily and Evie's smart mouth and challenging eyes which were endearing to someone who knew her well but annoying to anyone else.
Them getting into a fight would be the worst thing she and anyone else around would have to endure.
They ate and as Evie bit into her food she let out a sigh of contentment, biting more into the cheeseburger in her hands, 'I needed this.' She mumbled in between mouthfuls.
' We all did, babe.' Zeke sighed too as he shoved his food in his mouth.
' Food should never be taken for granted.' Scar said as she kissed a biscuit in her hand before putting it in her mouth.
' Agreed.' Both I and Zeke said at the same time making us turn to each other and smile slightly.
' You guys act like twins.' Scarlett commented with a roll of her eyes.
' A female version of Zeke. Oh God, no.' Xander mumbled under his breath but they all heard him and that was the first time Evie had heard his voice, 'One's already enough.' He said louder now as he turned to face his friend.
"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" Zeke asked with a pout on his face as he frowned at Xander's words.
Evie couldn't help the slight flip her stomach did at the sound of his voice. It had a rich baritone which made her want to do nothing but just listen to him talk. His voice was unnaturally deep which made a slight shiver run down her spine. It was the kind of voice that told bedtime stories and you'd just want him to tell you another one because you couldn't get enough of it. The kind that you'd do anything just to listen to.
Evie was so lost with thoughts of Xander that she didn't realize that Scarlett was trying to talk to her. Someone snapped their fingers in front of her eyes making her blink and turn to face them.
'Where'd you space out too?' She asked Evie.
She was just about to reply when Owen mistakenly nudged her and the remnants of the burger in her hands went flying forward, coincidentally right at Xander's face. Her breath got caught in her throat as a deafening silence took over the once rowdy cafeteria as other students seemed to have witnessed the scene take place.
Xander's eyes seemed to have automatically shut when the burger hit his face but when he opened them again his obsidian eyes immediately caught hers. Their eyes were caught in a death stare as neither one of them seemed to be breaking it any second. Supposedly in the heat of the moment, Zeke took his burger and propelled it towards Scar's face. She ducked just in time and whipped her head around to scowl at him, a murderous look in her eyes.
