"(Y/N)." Kyo murmured.

He opened his mouth to speak again, but before he could say anything else, Kagura yanked him up by the front of his shirt and continued her barrage of attacks on him.

When she was finally done with him and he was lying on the sandy ground in a broken heap, he locked eyes with (Y/N) and lifted his hand to pat his face twice.

Kyo Sohma didn't forget.

That gesture he just made was a signal he and (Y/N) came up with when they were younger. Some things just couldn't be told in the company of others, so they came up with the idea of doing something as a signal to the other person that they wanted to talk.

When (Y/N) saw it, she nodded. Feeling relieved, Kyo rose up and shakily made his way towards them. He felt glad that she remembered. Not that he'd admit it.

"I'll cook dinner!" declared Kagura when they heard Kyo's stomach growl. She skipped her way to the kitchen, refusing Tohru and (Y/N)'s offers to help.

She smiled at him before closing the doors. "Look forward to it, okay?"

Kyo frowned.

"Now, (Y/N)-kun," called Shigure, lifting his head from the table. "Would you accompany me to my study? I have a few comments about your writing."

"In that case, Honda-san and I will be at the back if you need us," announced Yuki. "Is that alright, Honda-san?"

"Of course!" agreed Tohru, following Yuki out.

No chance to talk then. Kyo glanced back at (Y/N) who nodded slightly in response. They'd talk later.

"I'll be going up." Kyo told them, rising from his seat, feeling his limbs ache as he stood. That damn Kagura.

(Y/N) shot him a sympathetic look before she followed Shigure out of the room.

"Akito-san sends his regards." He heard her tell Shigure as they entered the study.

Kyo sighed. Seeing (Y/N) did bring back a lot of memories and feelings, some of them he'd rather forget. But good ones outweighed them. After all, (Y/N) was one of his only true friends in the world, and he hers.

The Cat and the Fox.

The outcast and the chosen one.

What a pair.

Seeing (Y/N) after such a long time seemed to break down a dam in his head, because all he could think about until the night fell were memories of their childhood.
