Chapter 87

Zayn's POV

I place a flower on George's grave.

This time, I couldn't control my eyes from shedding tears. He didn't deserve this. The man who devoted his whole life at my service deserved love and care but not this. I am the reason for his brutal death. I couldn't save him. I couldn't give him the return gift for devoting his life to me.

What would I explain to his family? Do I even have the courage to face his wife and kids?

I sob holding my knees for support.

"It's okay, Zayn. It wasn't in our hands." Kim sniffs beside me holding me, rubbing my shoulders.

"It's all my fault. I should have been aware with all what's happening. I am responsible for his death. He didn't deserve it." I cry my heart out losing myself. All these revelations are too much to take. I'm beginning to lose hope in this life.

"No, it's not your fault Zaynie. It was never yours. Please hold yourself together. Please, we have a long way to go." I come back to my senses at her words.

Alicia.

"We are running out of time. What's done is done, we can't mourn over what is gone, forever. We need to move on, Zayn. We need to find Alicia. You don't want to lose her, do you?" I shake my head at her words as I clean my cheeks with my hands. I get up and look at her.

"She's all I have. I can't lose her." I close my eyes to feel Alicia, my partner. "She's the only purpose of my life." I whisper to myself as my heart craves for her presence.

"But the question is, what were they doing in your house?" I hear Louis and open my eyes.

"Who?" I ask.

"Shanty and Jacob. The two guys I arrested back in your college were after Alicia. She went to your house in the morning. And in the process, George was killed." He reveals and I put my mind on stress.

"But you said they would help in your case, I mean my father's." I say furrowing my eyes and conclude. So does Louis. "Yep. It's confirmed that the criminal in both the cases is the same person. They are all his men." He says.

"But why would Alicia go to my apartment?" I start to think as I make my way to my house. "We need to search if we find any clue." I speed up as everyone else followed me.

It's been an hour we wasted but couldn't find anything. I close my eyes at the failure we are getting in every move we make.

"I think we should head to Bradford without wasting anymore time in here." Kim looks at me and I nod.

Back in my mind, I'm afraid if we fail there as well. But we need to try as something is better than nothing. In between, I keep trying to call my father. If, for some heavenly moment he picks up. I want him to explain all the accusations he has on him.

We reach Bradford at 8pm. All are tired and are slung back in the car seats.

"I'm hungry." I watch Niall whispering to Lauren through the front mirror as I continue driving. I have lost all my appetite but I can't see my friends in this condition.

"Guys." I begin looking back through mirror. "I'll go to Alicia's home and you all have dinner here." I state stopping the car in front of a restaurant. It seems to be nice and hygienic.

"No, we'll go with you." Kim immediately objects. "Yes, we won't leave you alone." Niall sits up and smile. "I'm not that hungry." He says and I shake my head.

"No Niall. It's fine." I shake my head as I turn around to look at all of them.
"Trust me guys. I'll take care of myself, don't worry." I stress on my words as I try to give them a smile. "I'll be back here or I'll call you if any change in the plan."
