After showing Gabriel to his maths lesson he had after break I didn't see him again until lunch. We had sat the whole of break talking together, as Tia ran off because 'she had a break time detention'. I knew she didn't but didn't say anything about it in front of Gabriel . Of course in the lesson after break she asked to know everything we had talked about. Although when I asked her who her detention was with she simply smiled and said ' don't say you didn't appreciate it'. I couldn't disagree. Although we had only talked for ten minutes I found out that Gabriel liked to be called Gabe, that he was an only child, lived with his mum and played guitar. I also noticed how his eyes crinkled at the corner when he smiled and how long and dark his eyelashes were.
When lunch rolled round we wondered to the canteen and grabbed our food. We saw Gabe sitting alone and went over to join him. He looked up from his panini and gave us his million dollar smile. It still hit me as hard as the first time I saw it.
Tia who normally ate at the rate of a snail was done within minutes and excused her self muttering something about going to see a man about a dog. This is the point at which most boys would have stared after her with a disappointed expression, but Gabe didn't. He barely even seemed to notice and continued to speak to me as cheerful as he was before she left.
'Don't get ahead of yourself' i thought. There was no way that this human liked me. There are over 7 billion people in the world, why would he even look twice at me? Except he did. Every time I looked up he seemed to be staring at me as if in deep thought, it wasn't creepy, it was actually quite flattering. Still it would never happen.
I was 5 foot 2, had long, untamed hair the colour of fire and large 'geek' glasses took up half of my face, what is in any way attractive about that? Whereas Gabe looked as though he belonged on the cover of a magazine, in some designer gear, with an equally as attractive female model beside him.
He belonged with Tia not me.
Lunch ended and I led him to his next class then walked to art. As I got my pencil case out of my bag a small piece of torn paper fell out and fluttered to the floor. I picked it up and opened it not having remembered putting it in there.
I nearly gasped aloud when I saw what was on it. Gabe had written a note with his number on it, beside it was ' we should text sometime'. I smiled to myself, wishing Tia was here so I could show her. I pinched myself. Not dreaming.
Maybe my Monday wasn't so bad after all.
