I looked up from my phone 15 minutes later to find Gabe just leaning against a lamppost staring at me. my cheeks flushed red.
"uh, hey" I mutter.
"hey"
I stood up smoothing my T-shirt before walking over to him.
"So,uh, what do you want to do?" By now my cheeks are burning because he's still staring at me.
"What is there to do?" He slowly replies
"Well,um" I stutter "there's the shopping centre, or the bowling alley, or um the lakes"
"The lakes?" He questions furrowing his brows. I smile at the little crease that forms between them.
"Uh, um, yeah there's just two big lakes and a path and trees and stuff." I'm staring at my feet as though they are the most interesting thing in my surroundings.
"Let's go there then"
"Ok" I stand for a few seconds before realising that Gabe is waiting for me to lead the way. "oh, yeah, this way."
We start on short walk to the lakes but the air is filled with an awkward silence, which is strange in contrast to the fact that we wouldn't stop talking earlier.
Then I trip. again.
