I unlocked the door and led Sir in . I attempted my level best to convince him that my bad performance was merely a a phase every cricketer goes through but deep down, I knew it wasn't the case.

I motioned for him to sit and I sat on the chair facing him. He quickly glanced around the room and a look of sheer disgust spread across his face. I knew that look too well. It was the same look he would give when players showed any sign of indiscipline like showing up late for practice, when his wife called or when someone's room was resembled a filthy Mumbai beach.

" Varun, the only thing that is bothering me now is your performance . I really don't care if you choose to live in this mess but I do care if you don't show up for training regularly, perform miserably in the last test match and now this one as well . I need to know what's happening . I am tired of handling the reporters and turning their questions around . "

His voice hinted anger and the disgust in his face was slowly transitioning into a strange combination of rage and worry.

" Sir, trust me its just that I am not in good shape . It's nothing really" ,I said, not daring to look him in the eye . Of course I was lying and lying to someone who knew me since the day I played under-sixteen tournaments wasn't a very cool idea.

I wasn't sure if I was ready to talk about it just yet to anyone . Even I didn't give enough time to myself to deal with it . How would I explain to him if I myself had no clue about what the hell happened ?

" The management is on fire, the media is ripping my soul apart in every press conference and here I have the one and only Varun Malhotra casually denying that there is a serious problem ."I could sense the helplessness in his voice now . Not rage ,nor disgust-just helplessness. I had to tell him, I ideally should . Krishna Sir is not just my coach but a fatherly figure who guided me till this date . He just HAD to know .

"Well", I said finally looking at at him .

" If you are going to beat around the bush then..."

" No Sir, Its jus....just that..."

The words seemed to get stranded in my throat . I wasn't sure if I was stable enough to narrate everything to him without a shedding a tear or two.

"Is it a girl ? "' Sir asked, raising his eyebrow.

"No..its..no..."

"Varun, you are stammering . You are clearly not telling me the truth and I have known you long enough to tell that you are lying.

" You're right, its a girl- kri.... Kriya" ,I said faintly. It seemed like an eternity after I had said that name .

" Kriya " , I said louder this time .

" Long story short, we met when I went to Delhi and started dating and..."

" WHAT??",Sir yelled, springing from his chair .

" Please let me complete Sir, I...."

" No did you just say DATING??"

"Sir, please sit ." I patted his shoulders gently and motioned for him settle down. He looked like he just had a mini heart attack; this was exactly the reason why I refused to have this discussion especially with him .

" No did you say DATING?? What the hell Varun?"

" Yes Sir", I sighed .

" KRIYA?"

I nodded my head and his eyes widened with shock . I didn't study medicine but I could tell that his BP had shot through the roof .

" Yes Sir, Kriya and I sta...."" Varun, looks like you have taken the wrong name . YUKTHI IS YOUR GIRLFRIEND".
