Thuds and loud steps filled the room as roots crashed and destroyed it. With the cursed spirit trailing right behind you, you only felt anxiety grow inside you.
"Are you alright, Inumaki?" Fushiguro asked.
Taking a sip from his cough syrup, Inumaki replied,
"Salmon."
"Here it comes!" Kamo yelled, turning to face the pale rampaging cursed spirit.
"Stop," Inumaki commanded as branches and roots barely missed you four.
Kamo shouted, clapping his hands. Suddenly, his blood formed into a straight line and stabbed the curse right into its face,
"Convergence, piercing blood!"
To your surprise, Kamo's attack had damaged the cursed spirit. Its pieces flew in the air, glowing underneath the bleeding sky. Did Kamo wound it?
"Hurry, it's going to heal right away!" Kamo exclaimed, running past you three and up the stairs.
The plan was simple. When Inumaki would stop the curse, you would attack and continue fleeing. It would be a stroke of luck if you could even reach the principal and the rest. There was no telling if the current balance would last.
You ran up the stairs, sweat trickling down your forehead. If you let your guard down even a second, you'd pay with your life.
With the swing of the door as Fushiguro opened it, you all jumped out.
You held the railing in front, jumping over it. Barely slipping off, the loud thuds on the rooftop sounded. You had to keep running.
Your momentum was the only thing preventing you from falling off.
You heard the thick roots crash everything in its path behind you. Turning around, you stood next to Inumaki.
"Inumaki will stop it. Don't worry. Just go!" Fushiguro assured his owl-like shikigami.
Its dark crimson feathers soared next to you, leaving a harsh gust behind it.
"Sto-"
Inumaki couldn't finish his sentence. Everyone stood, shocked at what had happened to the shikigami. Your heart dropped as if it was you instead.
The curse's arm pierced right into the shikigami, its gush of blood dripping. Next to you, Inumaki knelt as he coughed. Sweat trickled down his face, mouth gaping open without any voice.
You immediately knelt next to him, expression filled with worry.
"Inumaki!" You shouted, handing Inumaki his cough syrup.
"Kamo, behind yo-"
Kamo turned around when he heard you, swiftly dodging the curse's punch. Suddenly, the curse was back up, striking again at Kamo. It hit him, sending him flying towards Fushiguro.
