The darkness pressed in on you from all sides, thick and suffocating. You woke with a start, gasping for breath, but the air felt heavier than it should. A strange sensation washed over you as you realized that the world around you didn't feel quite right. You weren't in your room, or anywhere you recognized.
There was no light, no sound, just an endless void stretching out beyond your reach. You took a step, and then another, your feet sinking slightly into the weightless ground beneath you, as if you were walking through the fabric of a dream. There was no horizon, no sky. Just you, alone, in this desolate, sprawling void of coldness.
"Where am I?" you murmured under your shaky breath.
The sound of your footsteps, once steady and sure, began to stretch unnervingly through the air, each step echoing in the oppressive silence. Gradually, the rhythm grew to become a hollow mockery of your movement, every footfall clinging to the silence too long, stretching into a series of eerie reverberations.
And then, like a cruel twist, the echoes shifted, morphing into a low, mocking laugh that seemed to come from all around you, bouncing off the walls of your mind, distorting into something dark, too knowing. It was as if the darkness itself were laughing at your fear, at your desperation.
The laugh lingered, heavy, curling in on itself, leaving a coldness in its wake that made the air feel even heavier... unbearable. The emptiness stretched out, unbroken, and a growing sense of unease settled in your chest. You couldn't just stay here. It was a foreboding feeling that lingered inside of you. You had to keep moving.
Your heartbeat quickened with each step as you heard it—soft at first, then louder. Screams.
You froze, your blood running cold as a sense of dread washed over you. The screams were distant yet unmistakable.
It was your friends. You strained to listen, to find them within the grasps of the plunging darkness, yet no matter how hard you searched, you were met with nothing but even further darkness.
"Hello?!" you yelled out, but the sound seemed to disappear as soon as it left your lips.
Your legs moved on their own, panic driving you forward. You needed to find them, needed to know they were okay. You couldn't just stand there while they—while something—happened to them.
And then you saw them.
Megumi was slumped against the wall, blood staining his clothes. Nobara was struggling, trying to fight something invisible, her face twisted in pain. Maki was backed into a corner, her body jerking violently as if she were fighting against some unseen force. You couldn't see who or what was attacking them, but the chaos, the terror in their eyes, was enough to send a sharp ache through your chest.
"No! Stop!" you shouted, voice breaking, but there was no one to answer your pleas.
You rushed toward them, heart pounding against your chest. As soon as your hands reached out for Nobara, her form flickered and vanished into mist.
